Recently purchased the new Feldbahn Deutz diesel from LGB, so I needed some cars behind it. I recently bought a 3D printer, so this was my first G scale project on it.
I made the dimensions similar to the LGB's Feldbahn flat cars. I designed it from scratch (although you will see similarities of course), which took quite some time as I only had limited CAD experience. Designed it to fit LGB's Feldbahn wheels, and with hook and loop coupler compatibility.
Turned out quite well in the end.
The typical 3D printing 'layering effect' is of course present, but it seems a lot worse in pictures than in real life. I think the effect will fade with some sanding, primer and paint.
I glued some (lead free) wheel weights to the underside of the deck for some extra weight. Total weight (without wheels) is now at 140 grams, still needs to be a little higher though.
I will be posting updates here in this thread, as well as on my blog (http://www.gscaleblog.com/2016/06/06/build-log-feldbahn-cars-1).
