In doing a for fun, low budget 'scratchbuild challenge' sometime after the 1st of the year? I've done them on other boards and it seemed like everybody enjoyed it.

Basically, it works this way. The challenge is issued on x day, with a few basic rules; like a general theme, a time limit, a maximum budget for new materials... then the guys each build something, post build logs, and the active board members vote for best, most original, etc. ...

For instance, some of the themes that have been used in past challenges were "rolling stock", "Maintenance of way", "scenery item", etc. The budgets constraints have usually been $10-25. Time periods used were anywhere from 2 weeks to 4.... The last time I set one up, I literally pulled stuff out of a hat the day of the challenge, so even I didn't know what the rules would actually be ahead of time.

It would be just for 'bragging rights', since I can't afford to send anybody prizes. :brokeheart:

Well, I have no craft skiils, no time and no patience, and this is a great way of ensuring I actually do something, so I'm in :D

OK Mik, I'm up for it....... as long as my labours (UK spelling) will be reasonably suitable for my late 1800s US railroad :D

Thanks for the suggestion

Count me in. Having a theme and timeframe to work to always gets my juices flowing (to coin a phrase!).

Thanks for all the positive answers!

Since most people have a large amount of 'honey-dos' between now and the end of the year, I'll probably wait and post the challenge on Jan 1
