Winter Run on Llongford Railway

Edrig, Little John, Ruby, Ffion and Coal Fowler
Hello,m

Well, it was cold outside but the fool I am, I decided to wrap up and run my accucraft edrig and ip engineering Shelly tram! Brrrrr it was cold.

The tram has not long been built and I wanted to give it a good running.

Here is the result:

Nice to see the Deltang controlled locos in action.

I can see that Edrig struggled a bit with the conditions. I'm not a live steamer myself, but is the knob easier or more difficult to use than a joystick with a live steam loco? I wonder if some sort of self-adjusting throttle can be devised for live steamers - a bit like the one on my lawn-mower. When the engine revs drop the throttle opens automatically and then closes when the revs pick-up. Has anyone ever tried devising something similar for a live steamer?

Nice film, thanks for sharing , Rik's idea would make life simpler if someone could bring it to fruition :) I would also be interested to see how a loco fitted with "slowmo" ran in sub-zero conditions.

See this link for a solution. This guy has used Picaxe and RC to do what he calls 'cruise control' to set a live steamer's speed to a given value and it stays there.

Brilliant!! I might have known that not only is it possible but that Picaxe would be up to the job.

Really enjoyed the video (and it's seldom I say that about live steam). It was interesting to see the regulator opening and closing by more or less the right amount to keep the loco moving at a sort of constant speed.
