What happened at your workbench today?

A good day for working in the workshop today.

A fun project to make and I got to use all the toys ,machines in the shop. :D
The little ceramic button that wire goes through, was salvaged as a apprentice 40+ years ago. I knew it would come in handy one day:D:D.
Copied from a Proxon foam cutter, but made larger to suit G scale use, platforms, tunnel mouths, snow shelters, buildings and so on.
The "trolley" at the top can move to adjust the angle of the cut.

Other than the ni-chrome wire and motor controller (both uncovered in the recent cleanup). It is all made from salvaged or leftover material.
Still a bit to do on the fence, drill and tap a few holes plus painting. Yes the fence is ridiculously over engineered, but it was either over or under thickness as that's what I had.

I made a similar sort of thing, nothing like as good as yours. My problem now is getting the wire, initially I used an old electric fire the ones with the wound wire but once that broke (I should have saved more) Inhave not been able to use it since. I love your fence, from my experience with a cheep nasty circular saw a fence can never be over engineered to get accuracy.

I think it will be very useful for model making. I will need to experiment with wire tension, temperature setting and speed of feed.
I bought the nichrome wire off ebay, was a while ago maybe $10, 5 pounds in your money for a couple of meters.

Thanks knowing the name of what to hunt for helps me, found plenty on Ebay.

A shorter Baldwin
The idea of this is to provide another locomotive for the Grandaughter’s part of the garden railway.
A lot of Bachman Baldwins seam to get LGB transplants because of drive issues.
Turning the idea on its head I am using body parts tank and cab etc from the Baldwin on an LGB chassis/boiler which I am trying to keep standard other than run of a a radio RC van or tender. This also means it will negotiate radius one curves. It’s shown here mocked up to see what to do next !
