WGRG Visit to Brian W's Railway

Saturday 11th September and a few members of the Wellington Garden Railway Group descended upon Brian W's railway on the Kapiti Coast, north of Wellington for a pleasant afternoon of train running, giving Brian's new railway a golly good testing.

It's a small but picturesque railway..

with plenty of yard space to for waiting trains...

Past the farm is a nice station building front against the back fence...

and a shanty town serving the adjacent mine...

at the foot of the plaster-on-mesh mountain...

School must be in as no kids out playing on the cannon, learning here must be blast!

The pasture is mostly Scleranthus biflorus (NZ native moss) and it works really well

Brian's Shay to the left, Ian G's Wadlin Goslin out on the main...

And Ian G's Forney...

Brian's Bachmann 3 truck shay is equipped with a Phoenix sound system...

With the Phoenix sound system the Shay sounds perfect, a solid rapid chuff just as you'd expect on a geared loco.

Chris D's USA Trains GP9 also has sound, a Dallee sound unit, also putting out good sound.

My Dubs A, here sitting silently on the inner loop.

Chris D's live steam Frank S, needs no sound unit, making it's own chuff on the inner loop.

The lama's don't seems at all worried my the passing steam loco!

All in all an afternoon well worth the drive to get there...

to enjoy some good company along with the trains...

Excellent pictures! I love that mounding effect which is so typical of many parts of the actual NZ landscape which looks, in parts, like a real TellyTubby land.

Sorry about that John - I was so busy enjoying the pics that I missed the text - it wasn't until I took a second peek that I noticed (pics were slow loading so the text appeared first!)! Interesting moss - looks really great - the moss over here is different.

It's the same as this...

It is called simply 'New Zealand Moss', well that's what the label said at the garden centre.
