WGLR, the 2010 re-build.

Can I come and play please? Looks right up my street. Like the headshunt idea, makes it that bit more realistic and adds play value too- bonus. Making it separately controlled it definitely a good plan. Sort of inglenook sidings then!

Are you still considering having different swappable buildings on that bit to represent different industries? The sawmill shunting operation may get a bit tedious after a while as all the wagons are the same- but that probably only affects you if you are a sad, strange little man who likes nothing better than to shuttle wagons between a few sidings for hours on end.

Not like anyone we know then...

Yes, I do have it in mind that the buildings will be pretty generic so it can be different things on different days Matt. Thing is, I've already got most of the wagons I'd need for a timber mill, but I could also make up trains to serve an MOD site (again) and I've been looking at the part of the old Caersws station that was used as a per way yard.

Planning is part of the fun ain't it?

it is, are you intending to use the shunting puzzel mell? planning, its testing with your mind!!

It's coming along nicely Mel - it's all in the planing matey

Planning is the best bit... Timber mill seems a logical (and fitting, lots of trees round your way) choice to me.

Well it's been pretty hard work for the last few days and I've not really got much to show for it, but I've actually made a lot of progress.

First off several of the slabs needed re-positioning. This has actually led to more room for a couple of chairs etc., so the wife is pleased  = brownie points.

Then all of the old walling blocks that made the raised bed that Gooey station used to sit in needed recovering and dressing - ie chipping all the old cement off. This has taken 4 days on and off, but the result is that I've more or less got enough to finish the new bed.

Next job is to cement all of the walling in place, some of which will have to wait until I get the viaduct so that I get the levels right. Then a few bags of gravel will be poured in to aid drainage, followed by leveling everything with soil.........................

............ soon be time for track laying .

More progress today. The rest of the walling is sorted and I've started digging into that grassy knoll to level it all out. Since the photo was taken, I've also started cementing some of the walling in place.

Can't do much more now until I get the viaduct so that I can check levels etc. So I'll be on the phone to Back2Bay6 first thing in the morning. Hopefully, a little ride out will then be required .

If I've got this right, the above link should open a page that features a virtual Inglenook Sidings that you can practise your shunting on:bigsmile:

Picked up the Cain Howley viaduct on Tuesday. By lunchtime Thursday it was all cemented into place. By Thursday afternoon trains were crossing it.

Hopefully the concrete foundations will get a nice covering of moss. Within each foundation is at least one house brick. Mr Howley thoughtfully made his viaduct piers the exact width of a brick.

The bricks holding up the girder bridge are temporary. I cleaned Steve out of proper piers, so he's getting me two more.

Had another money saving idea this morning. If you check the new track plan, you will see that a set of storage sidings were included in the far corner of the garden. The original idea was to build a small deck like structure as a baseboard, which may have had to wait depending on how the budget worked out.

But then I looked out of the bedroom window and was thinking about what I was going to do with the 5 2foot square slabs I had left over. Et voila..........

This is very much a quick mock-up, I think I'll be able to make the real thing 4 slabs long (8') rather than 3. The sidings will just sit on the slabs so that they can be moved around and taken up as neccasary. One things for sure, it ain't never gonna go rotten!! And all for free using stuff that's left over .

The ultimate plan is to build some sort of frame or legs for my engine shed diorama so that it fits over the top of the sidings, thus providing storage both for trains and locos.

Are those spare roofing panels I see in the background?????????? ;)

Magic

Tis taking shape nicely , I remember you describing your plans for the garden to me well over 12 months ago, so its great to see the progress. And as a bonus you won't be hit on the head by falling apples!

Great when a plan comes together mate.

You are not hanging about are you Mel.
All looks very fine and dandy.

No, pull up all the track, put in rows of seats, and convert the shed into a PUNCH & JUDY stall. Then charge all who come to see the show, a couple of quid (it's more than I make at the back of Rackhams (local Birmingham joke)) With the money add a large tramway system!!!:rolf::rolf::rolf: Alyn
P.S. its looking good.
