Video of Garratt running on Playmobil circuit- test

Now you say that I think you may be right. Hmmm. Its from the bits box, but the massive boiler I have made from an oil tank is maybe needing a shorter one. Any one else got any ideas?
I don't want to take anything away from your excellent model but my thoughts on the boiler being as you asked are that the length looks fine perhaps a bit less in diameter would have suited a wee bit better, but it takes all sorts, I refer to the little LGB 0-4-0 with the fat boiler.

Don't be so 'picky' about boiler sizes, et al!!

Looks brilliant, and I would be more than happy if it were mine.

Cheers all for the comments and input. Gareth, yes was the wife as it needed someone to hold the "test rig" AKA batteries and tape etc... no cunning plans per se.... but they are often on my mind :D

As for the chimney I had a look and as it is supposed to be narrowish gauge I think it's OK for now. It's an easy fix. I think I will now just paint it black, with red wheels and then, leave it for a while and decide what final changes might be good. I will also fit the gubbins for battery RC, before final details and paint are added.

Interesting comment on the bolier diameter. I went to great lengths to make my own boiler and firebox as I had read that they should be big diameter and shortish- a benefit of the Garratt config not having wheels under it for good steaming. However whilst i can change details I am am not going to rebuild it regardless of it being right and wrong- had enough of glue, cutting myself for this year :-)

bye for now.

Fantastic job Ian. Very, very impressed.

We are not envious, Ian

I think the real achievement is that, while it will negotiate R1 if needs be, that hasn't compromised the appearance of what is a very handsome loco.

;D ;D ;D ;D

Guys I do appreciate the supportive comments- and also the comments assessing looks. being completely freelance it is really useful. I have also have had some via PM and without the feedback it wouldn't look the same. There is a lot still to do to get the final look right. I am going to take a break from it now- bit garratted out...
