Video of Garratt running on Playmobil circuit- test

Before anything gets properly stuck together (gravity holding this together at the moment) I wanted to be sure it would run on r1 layouts. My layout is r5 minimum, so this is acheived by having an r5 pivot set and and r5. The r1 comprimises the looks a bit but allows it to run anywhere. It ran ok at both 2.4v and 4.8v so its obviiusly free enough. Its not meant to be realistic on these curves just negogiate them if needed at friends railways.

Can some one tell me if playmobil is r1?

Playmobil is tighter than R1, maybe R0.9. If you lay a half circle of LGB R1 ones you can see the difference. (If I can make time tomorrow I will do you a comparison photo.)

Made it round with out any problems and looked mighty fine too great work Ian ;D

Thanks colin. I think a grubby black, with red oily wheels, as thats what most in the book are, but I am not sure! What do you think?

What an impressive looking beastie - and flexible too!
A masterpiece de resistance!

Demonstrating what Garratts were designed to do. I like it :D

Well Donna was very impressed! Of course that goes for me as well.

Nicely proportioned loco. At first I thought the funnel was a bit too tall but it is growing on me.

Now you say that I think you may be right. Hmmm. Its from the bits box, but the massive boiler I have made from an oil tank is maybe needing a shorter one. Any one else got any ideas?

That is some loco Ian. Well done that man....and it goes around Playmobil curves! stunning!

As a rule the height of the chimney would be about the same as the height of the cab. I just checked google images to make sure I'm not talking total rubbish and it does seem to be the case, though I guess there will be exceptions.

Thanks playmo! I always assumed they were the same. Good news the garratt should run fine on re then!

Glad to help. I'd always assumed that they were the same too, and could never work out why track plans in LGB under AnyRail never worked out the same with Playmobil track. It was Walter Turner who told me that Playmobil curves were 0.9 and solved the mystery for me.

And the Garrett looks just the job - very impressive.
