Hi All

Im about to modify one off my playmobil rc chassis, to have a simple manual speed control and iVe got a few questions namely:

What value of variable resistor, should I purchase? I was planning on keeping the existing batterys for now, but may swap them for a 6v at a later date.

and for wiring should it go battery, directional switch, resistor , motor

or

battey, resistor, switch motor?

Also any advice is very appreciated

I agree, no resistor, a speed controller with manual control or a transmitter for full RC

My "Simple Critter Control" is designed to do exactly what you are trying to do; simply control speed manually. However, unlike a rhoestat or variable resistor, it is a full 5-amp PWM motor driver that is efficient. All of your battery power will go to the motor, not wasted in a rheostat.

I use the control circuit from an old battery drill, any 12V battery will do for it and it even has reverse.
And we all have a ton of those around, or we can buy a crappy one for £9,99 at any DIY store, the circuit is all you're after.
I just remove it from the chassis, remove the spring to make it 'settable', use a connector type that will fit your battery and voila.
Beware the poles are never reversed though, or you'll fry it.
