I am looking for USA Trains 44 tonner. Any livery will do. Doesn't matter what state body is in provided motors are fine.

Just bumping this a little

Re: USA Trains 44 tonner

They are becoming like Rocking Horse Manure Mike. I,m looking for one too. Only in a BN livery.
However, I did hear/read on another site that USAT are re doing a batch.(?)?)?)

Yep Rod, they are scarce but I want one, or two for a very particular purpose............

last little bump for this hunt

Mike if you get one in BN livery, please give me a shout before you "desimacrate" it.

Hi Rod
Well there are two things that I am doing.

1) Converting one 44 tonner to a Rio Grande jobby (they had a few of them based at their yards)
2) Utilising the motor blocks, as they are just right wheelbase for what I have in mind..no other block has the right measurements

The motor blocks are the most pressing issue so they will take precedence. USA Trains no longer make the blocks so.....

I have got one so far which I bought a while back 'as new' and it is a Burlington one. So if I was to allow this one to go, I will then need 2 more to replace it!

Mike if you are interested. Train-Li USA has two one at $269.95

Cheers Rod but not expecting to pay for a new one. Would be a bit of a waste both of money and a new loco as I am going to repaint one and cannibalise another!

Would an Aristo Centre Cab switcher be any use instead being a very similar sized loco as I have one of these?

Hi Steve
The search is so that I can add some more 'motorised' rolling stock options to assist steam locomotives with my gradients.

I use the Aristo Centrecab blocks for freight cars and USAT 44-tonner blocks for passenger cars. The wheelbase of each one is almost just right for their individual uses.
At the moment I have Centrecab blocks but need some 44 tonner blocks for motorising a couple of passenger cars (one is a baggage car which will take two blocks on its own)

Have you tried the Magic Carpet Ride motorised wheel sets that are sold in the US just for this purpose, I believe that they are a quick fit in to standard bogies?

Hi Steve
They sound good but they would have to have the ooomph of the Aristo and USAT blocks.
The Aristo ones are very weighty too as they are die-cast in construction.
I will definitely investigate them, many thanks for the tip
Do you know the website? I have tried googling but no success

Have found them Steve,
They were manufactured by NSWL and were really for '1' gauge. They cannot be used above 18v and also will not work with AC (or PWC). The wheelbase is 85.7 mm so too long for my needs :( :(

They are or possible were a North West Shortline Product, their website is not very user friendly so I'm not sure if they still make the G and gauge 1 versions:

Was worth a try......many thanks for the tip but the hunt remains on

the elusive USAT 44 tonner still out of reach.........
