Trams made in Wuppertal / G scale

Yep some warm white leds do become whiter than white, seems to depend on the manufacturer, I have warm white leds that are orange
A simple fix would be to put a resistor in series... Its trial and error... @ Tramcar Trev: Thanks for your help, will see what to do with it. For the event comming up next weekend it is allready to late now.

The Towercar ist nearly finished. Door handles are fittedt on each door. It has got windscreen wiper on both sides because it was raining today. At least I shortend the headlamp housing, and put on chrome rings.

Hopefully next week the red/white stripes will arrive, that will be the last work on the tower car.

And step by step this trailer will be finiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiished, hopefully in 2014!

The lasth floor was simulated and mounted. Also 4 "heating devices" for the passengers have been installed. (Winter comes!) Later, when the seats are installed, than you can't see the heaters. But I need them. I cut from underneath 2mm screw threads in it. So it holds the chassis frame.

Old rivets from old files have been saved. Now they come into new live! Now they are chrome rings for the back- and brake lights. Led's will be used for that as well.

The underneath looks like a real structure. But I haven't found anything about it, so I used pictures I made from it. But I didn't took the messurements. The black parts in the middle will be the brake pad for the blue brake disks.

And now the chassis frame was made new. The old one was to bright. Than the electromagnetic rail brake was buildt. I found a drwaing of it in the internet. Scaled it down to 1:22,5 and gave it a Wuppertal look. An old photo made in sunny weather helped a bit.

Last works on my trailer made me a bit frustated. To add a bit weight to the running gear(?). I made the cross beam with brass. Two square bar brass 5x5 mm, 62,5mm length and two 4mm diameter brass in the same length. Than I tried to drill a 1,6mm hole in the center of the sides. But I have no turning lathe, so I couldn't center it. Ok that doesn't really matter. After drilling the holes, I tried to cut the 2mm tap hole. And the screw tap broke. ( Dam..... censored!) Now I try to find someone nearby, who can help me.

M2 screws will be changed to M2 counter-sunk screws.

The brass square bar willbe covered with plastic.

In the end that brass things add mor weight to the chassis, so it runs better.

Whilst waiting for some parts for the trailer, I worked a bit on my friend’s car.

My friend got the order to sand the roofs for that car. And me? .... hahahaha, After he said he was ready with it, I put some more filler on the roof. So he started again to sand. This little game goes on for around 10 or more times. Than I said: ready! To the end I used a spay filler and sanding the roof with a wet sanding paper.

Now we have to make a number box for the route signs. We have no plans/drawings for that car. Only photos from the internet. So we used a photo with a good front side view. With the front window from our model and the photos we try to find the dimensions. At home I have some drawings from DüWag cars. One is a "Dortmund" 8-acxle car. in Scale 1:20. And this drawing has measurements for the number box. In the end by scaling these numbers down to 1; 22, 5 it has nearly the same dimensions like we found out with the photos. So I am using the drawing now.

No! We are not in a gambling hall! At first I used plastic material but that was too week. Than, I saw these dices. And... They do have the right diameter for our number boxes. Poor dices they had to die!

Poor dices they had to die! But.. the "eyes" (so we call the dots in Germany) are a bit too deep. I have to fill them. Sorry I forgot to take a photo of the results. They will come. In my mind I'm not really happy with it. I'm searching for a bit better plastic material to make new ones.

How big will the numbers need to be? If you want working numbers you could always use an 8mm led display.... I feel sorry for the dice but admire your lateral thinking....

@ Tramcar Trev: Too late. The dices are dead now. And at the moment they do not have a second live. I decided to use other plastic material.

But step by step. My friend made the running boards underneath the pantograph.

To prevent moisture, we painted it for the first time. The front part (White stripes) is a mixture between plastic and wooden coffee stirrer.

And one of the number boxes are nearly ready, it has to be cleaned at round corner.

And with help from a German model builder I could work on my trailer again. He drill a 1.6mm in 4mm and 6mm round brass. Than he cuts a 2mm metric thread into it. So I could join my carriage with 4 screws. The imagination of the electromagnetic rail brake comes to the carriage. Now I have to adjust und modify the axle boxes.

My friend Wilfried made in 1969 a photo of a KSW trailer. It was car 908 in meter gauge. There are differences to the normal gauge (1435mm) the front locks different. Brake and backlights are in different heights. And the electric cables where different as well.

I'm beeing back from bed and try tor work as normal. Still a bit near my shoes, but...

The roof comes nearly to an end. The roof rail had been istalled. And the thunder can come now: the lightning conductor is also mounted.

You also see a pipe on top of the roof starting from the driver's cabin with a rope inside the pipe going to the pantograph. On the site with the resistors this pipe is shorter and goes underneath the walking pannels.

This tram is going forward.

A lot of little works had been done during the last months. Seats and sand boxes and conductor and driver seats had to be build. The floor got some planks Only two site seats opposite the conductors place are missig. Handles at the seats also one of the next steps to do.

A very new project starts some weeks ago. A dream came through. On Ebay I saw an articulated Düwag tram showing a Düsseldorf car.. I got it for a good price, I thought. The owner before built it. But... it was a mess. The advert on the tram was very bad in quality. So I tried to remove it, paint came of as well. Ok, a decission had to be made. Convert it into a Wuppertal tram 3817 till 3822? Give it a try. Grumble.... Düselddorf articulated tram have been 10 cm wider than Wuppertal trams. No Chance!

The Ebay tram was numbered as Rheinbahn 2308. In the fifties Wuppertal got a Rheinbahn Düwag six axle articulated tram, numbered as 2309. It was a tram on test rides. Wuppertal ordered later similuar ones. So my decission is to change 2308 into 2309, how it ran in Wuppertal. It got a new coat and some extra details, because there are some things wrong. In the same time I ordered a kit for a Düwag tram. With it I've got some spare parts as well, from both sellers. So I began two things: Rebuilt the 2308 and change it into 2309, looking like the test tram in Wuppertal with Wuppertal destination signs. And a new one: Wuppertal 3818. Her are some pictures.:

So it came to my house: Rheinbahn 2308. Having problems on R1 switch,

In Hannover it has changed a bit with new painting and Wuppertal signs.

At the moment it is in this status. It is not a 100% ready, But I think I made it a little bit better as I got it.

Hopefully that this tram is running this weekend at a model railway show at the Wuppertaler Stadtwerke. Not only G scale modell railroaders wil be there. Hope that I fixed the problems with an S-curve on R1.

This is 2309 running in Wuppertal on route 11 / Briller Straße / Fernmeldeamt.

And now to my dream:
This will be tram 3818 from Wuppertal, a 4 boogies tram (8-axle tram) in orange / blue. Last version of paint on that car. (Without the stickers!)

3818 at Döppersberg Hauptbahnhof.

First of all I made the middle section of that tram. The roof is made from LGB ICE trailers. The LGB models have exactly the same width as the Wuppertal tram. And I killed only three ICE midlle cars, but they had been very used. (Ebay, or other customers sold them, prefere the bodies, doesn't matter in what condition they are. The ending under my hand saw.)

So it is at the moment.

It comes closer to the original.

In the end it will be around 1,20 meter. It will have two us trains motorboogies.

Very brave doing those curved Window Profiles to make 3818. But what superb jobs you guys are making of your Trams. I have always looked at the LGB ICE and seen a Tram somewhere in it, you guys have made the reality. Knew that I should never have sold my one.

Some more works are done. Slowly the trams work of 3818 going on. After I tried it 6 times to built the back end it is now made. The 7th try is ok now.

This is the 7th back end I made on this car. Also the floor has been made 4 times.

The back end, called section B is nearls ready.

Now I found the blue print ant copied it into Scale 1:22,5.

So I see what is wrong or false.

It looks like it fits to the drawing.

The middle section ios called part C.

By the way the layout has to be renewed, the old one is worn out. The wood I used for it could not stand the rain. The man at the DIY store gave me the wrong information.for the wood.

With the new line it will be to the outer side. I t will still have to tracks for parking models.

Today 4 motor boogies arrived. These are USA trains motors. I just work on them. Later this night I will post a photo.​

Love the line up of trams on your outside line Peter. You do some wonderful scratch built work there. Quite an inspiration.

Just thinking about your you rotten wood problem. Do you have a supplier who makes anything like this in Germany ? https://www.filcris.co.uk/category/garden/garden-railway-products

Quite a few people here have turned to these products made from recycled materials to build their line's support structures. No problems with deterioration here, apparently. Max

I chose the sleepers for better contact. If that is not working, I can remove them very quickly.

I got 4 new moters (for other projects as well) but there was no description with it. I will digitalise it, but I'm not sure about the cables. Can anyone help, please. It is a Massoth emotion 815501 decoder.
