Re the lights, one of the GB Profi articles that I referenced earlier in the thread has used LGB Stainz lights to replace the two lower front lamps with larger ones, while keeping the smaller top one.
Jon.
I now see your interest, the two early pictures in the Mallet-Lokomotiven des Harzes by Dirk Endish show the Mallet NWE11 (99 5901) with two quite Large Lamps. Interestingly on the Top Bracket there is no Lamp. This suggest a Third Removable possibly a Kerosine Lamp. The Pictures are dated 2/7/1932 some 35 Years after building. The Pictures show both sides of the Loco and the lines of her are much cleaner in respect of Plumbing and Bits visible. Perhaps my Job would have been easier had I backdated that far. There is another picture dated 27/3/1949 but it is difficult ney impossible to make the Lamps as it is bedecked with Pine Decorations for some kind of Children's celebration or perhaps the well known Witches and Devils celebrations. I would love to post one of these pictures on here, but I do respect Copyright of original Books.
There were other Mallets on the Harz, notably NWE 31 and 32 which one can use the LGB 0-6-6-0 Mallet with confidence. It surprises me that LGB never did one of these amongst their 5 or 6 various Liveries of this Mallet. It would have been a simple job for them. There were also the Borsig 2-4-4-2 Mallets 51 and 52. The point about this little missive is that early Pictures though some undated all show two Large Lamps down below as it were. Though 31 and 31 do appear to have permanent High Lamps.
