For those who might not know, Top Slots & Trains are closing down. Anything left in stock is reduced by a fair amount (50% or more), so well worth taking a look. Shame about them closing, as they were a good supplier with good pricing.

Yes very sad news indeed, they were certainly my go to choice for Piko, I think I have 4 or 5 Piko locomotives purchased from them plus quite a bit of Kato N Gauge Tramway and Track bits.

It is very sad. They were the only UK retailer who came anywhere close to matching continental prices, and their service was second to none. They will be missed. I'm not sure what has precipitated the closure, does anyone know?

I live just over a mile away from the shop and was a regular saturday shopper before lock down. I last spoke with Darren last summer when I saw him outside the shop having a smoke, he told me then that he didn't forsee opening the shop again as he was worried about Flu and would not have people inside the building, or standing close to him. It was a very short conversation. I will ask around and see if anyone knows anything.

Darren told me that he'd move it all to his home if he had the space, but he hasn't. Presumably, he's having to give up the existing premises.

Sad that was my choice for the Piko motor block for the Mogal or in my case 0-6-0 Saddle tanks :( it's getting harder to find bits in the UK

I got my Kamel replacement motor blocks from someone in the Newcastle area, any one know if he is still in business? Plus of course contact details if he is.

Had a look at a slot car forum chat from the last week of June where a move of premises was mentioned. Drove past the shop on Monday and Darrens motor was there but no response to e-mail or phone or knocking on the door. Hopefully it is a change of premises, there are new units a couple of hundred yards down the road.

He told me in an email he is only working 3 days a week at the moment.

Thanks for that. I've wished him all the best for the future via e-mail and assuming he's not moving away I'm sure we'll bump into each other.

This is a massive blow to the hobby. It was a go to.... I can seriously see our hobby dieing in the UK without serious retailers.

Unfortunately that's the way things are going. I'm sure Internet shopping has a lot to do with it. Mind you 16mm folk have always had the same problem. Garden Rail Specialists and Garden Rail from Bishops Stortford seem to be still going well

And I understand P and S Hobbies are also doing well.

The ironic thing is, I only ever bought online from top slots, very regularly.
