Today on the WGLR

Planning was done over a pint with steak and chips . Not that it's much of a track plan, just a siding about 4 foot long. It would be next to impossible to link this up to the rest of the railway, so this is intended to be just a little diorama/photo opportunity. The two good things are
1 it cost sod all (pebbles, coal and rent don't come cheap when you're a pensioner), and
2 it can all be removed in 10 minutes if the need arises.

The story goes that this was originally a 2 foot gauge line serving a quarry, but it fell on hard times and was abandoned. Then the local earl re-instated the nearby timber mill and needed plenty of siding space for loading and storing his log wagons (the EU gave him a massive grant for creating local jobs, using sustainable timber and contracting the WGLR for transportation rather than using loads of lorries). So the old 2 foot track was cleared away and new sidings layed.

And here's how it looks from our deck.

BTW Mel, I know this a bit off your topic, but, due consideration is being given to your idea of a gravel pit on the E M G R

The new track is layed to modern standards of elf and saftey, including safety rails above the crevice. However, some budget control was neccasary, such as using one of the old 2' gauge trucks full of stone as a buffer stop.

When the quarry went T's up everything went downhill fast ............ including the foreman's car .

As I said this is primarily a storage siding for me log trucks, but other rolling stock might get posed on here for a photo .

Especially when that moss starts to grow on the Tuxcraft wall .

Added a bit more.

The wife was watching an old Time Team on Sky (old fossils and stuff - reminds her of me ) and it gave me an idea. I thought the new area needed an old ruined building. Then I remembered the old section of ruined abbey that I made a while ago, but hardly ever put out.

I'm not sure how well it'll stand up to the weather, but never mind. Perhaps it's the old winding house or the remains of an early beam engine?

Inspiration for this (apart from Time Team ) came from the late great Peter Jones. I think he would have liked the ramshackled look .

You might notice that I've also had a bash at the end of the Tuxcraft wall with a bolster chisel. The end was too square.
