Lovely stuff Mel. The garage looks spot on mate. What was the GRS kit you got?

I got the Kerr-Stuart type 0-4-2 together with a donor chassis off Steve mate. REAL bargain .

Thanks for all the kind words guys .

Oh missed that one. Did Steve have an under the counter section or was it 'cos I shot round the Telford show so quick

johnsaintjim Jul 24 2009, 03:05 PM

I didn't go but I would have been very tempted by a bargain buy on the Kerr-Stuart. Is it the one they have running round the railway in the shop at the WHR (P)?

Yes I think so Graham. Kit plus donor chassis for £80. When I got it home I found the original receipt - all bought 5 years ago from GRS for a hundred and forty odd quid .

Steve also had a boxed LGB mogul chassis for £80. Didn't realise they sold their chassis seperately. It's still on the website too, would make a great base for a scratch built body.

Mmm that makes the GRS kit look very good value at £80 including chassis. Looking forward to seeing your build Mel.

I thought the one in the WHR(P) shop was the GRS Bagnall 0-4-2 kit
we've been proceeding slowly with one for the last few years - hopefully will speed up again now my son has finished his A levels

Errr yes, you may be right there Paul. Anyhoo, the one I got is the one that looks a bit like Talyllyn.

I've just been trying out another mixed train formation - last nights used the Hartland based goods stock. This one starts with the same 4 wheeled coaches (one Brandbright, one IP - both mounted on LGB chassis with LGB couplings)..............

yb281 Jul 24 2009, 04:15 PM

........... but then I used the Fred built horsebox as a coupling adaptor (LGB one end, Accucraft t'other) ..............

yb281 Jul 24 2009, 04:18 PM

.......... which allows me to have some Accucraft wagons bringing up the rear .

Now all I have to do is explain to the passengers why they'll have to wait for half an hour at every station while the loco shunts the wagons .

I wouldn't worry about that Mel, nobody ever did in real life, you just took it for granted

I thought that there were only 2 stations on the WGLR, Wetton and Gooey, both where trains have to terminate, thus meaning shunting and running round must ake place?

All the other stations are only halts.

On the NNR, it takes 45 mins between the train arrival and its later departure, which soon passes by for the interested passenger.

So the WGLR seems to be a modicum of efficiency....

Not quite Giz. Wetton doubles as the main intermediate station, Cockshutt Mortimer, that's why I left it with facilities to run through when I extended the track instead of making it a true terminus .

Plus .......... it was a joke, hence the lol smiley .

All the recent talk of land-grabs and new extensions made me a bit jealous. Anyone who has visited the WGLR will know that I haven't got much land left to grab .
However, there was a thin strip of ground directly under the back wall of the garage in which nothing grows, which is a pity because the rest of this bed is coming along nicely with loads of ferns and various other greenary. The only thing missing was a bit of overgrown track .
