The weather was brilliant, only three locomotives in steam.

Balham on 1000hrs local.

Looks brilliant must visit again soon , is the second rail for 32mm and does it cover the whole layout?

Ok Its a check Rail :timeout:

No Steve, it's the check rails for the viaduct. It actually works and has prevented many a locomotive taking a tumble down into the lower Locomotive sheds.

Great photos! Am I right in thinking that Balham is a Pooter, rather than a Carrie?
Cheers
Chris

Absolutely Chris. It started life as a meths burner. Then converted to gas. Burner sit between the frames. This locomotive is almost silent when running.

Beat me to it Chris!

Nice piccies Casey.

fantastic layout - is it public...?

It's open to the public every Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday. The CFR was started by me ten years ago at Rothley station on the Great Central Railway. We rely on donations to keep running and for improvements. It is an on going railway with plenty still to do. A few friends help me run it. The bridges, viaducts and stonework were done over many years by a good friend Andrew Pearson. Sadly Andrew no longer comes to the CFR citing visitor pressure as the main reason.

Casey,
looking good. Could you give us more details how you fixed the rails to the sleepers?
Thanks!

Markus. The check rail was laid in place then drilled and pinned to the sleepers. Brass pins were used. It works so well that the check rail hasn't moved since being laid in 2003.
