Today I've been buying toys...
Ok... Ok... I know... Big kid etc...
But there's a reason. Honest...
While looking for flashing lights for my works train, I came across this.

True it's a bit on the large size (1:16) but look at the roof beacon. Its transparent yellow and hollow. I figured that at this price that part and the twin cranes made it worth a punt, to see what if anything could be done with it. If it turns out to be no use, well my mates grandson gets an early CHRISTMAS PREZZIE. If however they can be used for my intended purpose then I'll post photos.
Hmm... It has sound too.. I wonder what the sounds are like? Just maybe that may come in for something too.
Regards,
Paul.

That's a lot for the price. My grandson would love that.
I don't think any Grandson is going to see one of those, you'll never let 'em

Reminds me of my old Corgi Holmes recovery vehicle.
Very nice.

How about this?

Yep... These are cool too. I've got a few of them. Including the one on my Playmobil low loader which I altered to take a 4 wheel LGB coach.
It now has a working winch to load and unload the coach. This will be placed on the 'loading road' in the loco depot when it's built A rather large diorama piece to add a bit of extra interest. I'm planning on running it from a push button on a stake, so it can be reached by small visitors. It should fit in well with my Playmobil container truck, cement mixer, coach and mountain rescue 4x4. All of these are currently RC
vehicles, but I'm experimenting with slot guided steering, just leaving forward / backwards / start and stop. The 2nd channel could then be used for lights / sound.

Well it turned up today, but...
There's no way on the planet that it's 1:16, despite what it says on the box. Closer to 1:32 I'd wager. My playmobil trucks dwarf it.
However that's not an issue for what I wanted from it. So still worth the price paid.
The two cranes and beacon should do nicely.
I'll post a couple of pics so you can see the actual size of the thing.
Regards,
Paul.

Why not use 10mm diameter LEDs? About 50 cents each. You could probably file the tops flat if you wanted to change the shape.
It's 11.9cm high so perhaps more like 1:24.
As far as the sound goes, I suspect it is obnoxious. Beep beep beep. Hank honk honk. Vroom vroom vroom. Woo woo woo! :banghead:

Not quite as bad as that, but close. Engine cranking starting and running sound, not bad, but to short for any real use> Reversing siren OK, but not really applicable to rail vehicle. Horn car type as expected. What the 4th noise is meant to be is anyone's guess. (The symbol is a flower..?)
Lucky I wasn't really after the sound capabilities.

Back to the plot.
See photos for size and potentially useful parts.
AA battery included for scale.
Please ignore weird colour mishmash, this is just a dry run. The 2 locos will get a visit to the paint shop soon.
NB: Cranes are handed.

Camera seems a bit on the blurry size after it's journey into the great unknown.

The 'light-bar' looks about the right size for the loco.
Looks like the crane arms have 'prac.' winding of the hooks? Bonus! :)

As usual, I can't really 'see' it until the primer-coat goes on, and pulls the disparate bits together. - Though this one is easier to see than many bashes. :nerd::think:
