So for some time now my collection of models and tools have been somewhat scattered around the house. A solution was required to solve this. The next few photo`s show the progress that has been made over recent weeks :)

Truly impressive :D :D

Nearly as good as Sandy Taylor's (Scottish Garden Railways) train room - the room is his shop / stock room - but thee's less wall to see than in yours ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

On the other hand - he hasn't got quite as much room to run trains - he can only test them (in the truest sense of the word).

Still deciding what to do with the wall space. I need some sort of shelving on some of it, but really dreading drilling in to the wall and making a massive mess with the old plaster...

I can have the test track set as either analogue or DCC for testing purposes, and just play when its to wet out side. Theres a nice bit of space on the board facing the window for working on models, and once the outdoor track is finished, I'd be able to watch the trains outside too :)

Everything you need.. Storage, workbench, track to run on...
And ..
Biscuits! ;)

Very nice. I'm waiting for number one son to move out so I can do something similar. I suspect I may be in for a long wait though...

Gotta say I managed to stick around at home into my very late 20's...

The ones with the keener eye will spot the pack of biscuits getting smaller and smaller as the days went on :)

Oh, that's real one upmanship !! Running trains indoors while watching trains outdoors

Get someone to hold a Vac Pipe just below as close as possible to where you are drilling. Vac does need to be turned on of course, sucks up all the dust and saves loads of mess.

Its not the dust I'm worried about, its the old plaster giving up being part of a wall and ending up on the floor that I'm worried of. Its already happened in one room...

Why not make a shelf unit with a plywood (9mm?) back? This would disguise any weak plasterwork and would also support the plaster?

Very nice work. Would suggest though that an aperture is cut or holes drilled above the c/h radiator (if it is used) as things might get a bit hot above it and warp or worse. Also the radiator won't work efficiently as the board will block the convection current flowing through it and circulating the heat though the room. Had to consider the same with my indoor section. Max.

Shelf rack system? Fix a vertical bar to the wall, hang the brackets off the bar wherever you like.

For fixings, go large, as in 50 mm into the masonry. If the wall is studwork and plasterboard, locate the studs and fix there.

hi Max, thanks for the tip. I was planning on adding a couple of vents above the rad, but was going to see how it all felt in the winter :)
