Yes Modell-land. and hey fitted the XLS M1 sound decoder which is excellant.

Without taking anything apart of course, can you see or figure out where they've put the speaker and what size/shape they've used? Massoth in their newsletter suggest one of the tiny 28mm ones underneath, where there are some vent slots between the gearbox and the rear coupling - but the LGB chap at Stafford said that they recommended an oval-shaped one mounted somewhere in the boiler.... just wondering which option Modell-Land have gone for with their shop installs?

Jon.

I'd like to know if there is room for a power buffer anywhere? Seems like an engine that could do with one.

Or perhaps go with the ESU decoder that has a small power buffer built in.

I can just see a round speaker through the slots you refered to (behind the rear axle). This looks 25 or 28mm approx. The sound is very clear with this speaker - not at all 'tinny'.
Fitting the ESU decoder will require a lot of rewiring because of the new Marklin 27 pin plug system - have not been inside it myself so I dont know where to put a buffer but as the decoder is in the cab roof there may be room in the boiler/side tanks - but not much, there is a Buhler motor in there.
Have to say, it was running over my R3 dead frogs last night with hardly a murmer.May be just new clean wheels or maybe the axle movement is good - not sure on that one. It quite heavy but maybe not up to a Stainz weight - seems to pull well but I have not loaded it yet.

Smart little loco :) :),I hope that as an early prezzy it was put back in the box, then put away for safe keeping until the day?Of course it was ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

A visit from KentKeiths Piko 218 which has just received a Massoth XLS decoder along with a power cap and rear red lights in the ochsenwalder workshops.

My children (now adults) got me the Wernigerode fire equipment van for my Birthday.

So I made up a Fire Control Train including the Harz water tanker, an open wagon and a baggage car.

a couple of short videos. Note that there are two speakers for the sound - one on each power car - you get the double engine sound as it passes - excellent.

Yes Paul - very glad I did the modification. Runs perfectly now despite the cruddy alloy wheels. We did Keiths as well.

I fitted LGB skates in place of the Piko ones and due to the shape and grade of stainless steel that LGB use my Kamel runs much better in spite of the loco being marred by having aluminium wheels
