The Ochsenwaldbahn Line - from the begining again.

Can you make it go faster, mister?
But seriously, very nice

Interestingly (well, sort of...) I was only looking at the quoted "maximum" speeds of the various Harz locos the other night while looking through a reference book on the line (Dampflok Paradies Harz from TransPress - the one with the naughty pictures in it!)..... like many narrow-gauge lines the loco speeds are quite slow, with the 99-6001 being the fastest steamer on the HSB network at 50 kph flat-out (which sounds reasonable till you work out that it's only just over 30 mph...). The Harzbulle 2-10-2 is good for 40 kph (around 25 mph) while 6101 Pfiffi and 6102 Fiffi can only manage the same as the old 5901 and 5902 Mallets which trundle along at a stately 30 kph (just under 19 mph).

Now I don't know if these are genuine maximum speeds running as light locos, or if they are the mandated maximum speeds when running with a train - but either way they don't seem very fast at all.....

It underlines what I have always maintained, there is nothing worse, in my opinion, than seeing a model locomotive/train, especially narrow gauge, being driven too fast on a layout. Slooowwwww is good.

Every so often I remind myself that not so very many years ago, 30 km would have been a hard day's march.

Quite, David!

I don't know if anyone else wants to check my numbers, but at a very rough calculation using LGB's nominal 1:22.5, I get a result of 40 kph/25 mph at "scale" speed being the equivalent of the model covering a metre in about 2 seconds..... which actually feels a little faster than I expected it to be...?

I know I run my trains slow - probably a bit slower than the speeds noted above - but I like to see the motion in action and watch the coaches snake round reverse bends. Also, the sound is good as low speeds. Rule 8.

I do like the contrast between the big 'mainline' loco and the little shunter in the station. Everything in its natural order :)

I'm surprised there are no cycles onboard, considering it is a bank holiday train..

They are under construction.

A quick vid -

Think it was an early morning ECS working......

Nah.. there should always be a couple whose owners have lost their padlock key/forgot the combination and have been travelling around for days/weeks.

David

We are talking Germany here. What padlock?

The Piko Rotkamels needed a little attention so soon they were out double heading.
Keiths loco had a sticky skate (His is the clean one)
