Re:The Little Gladstone Branch, MkII

Hi Alec,

You have done a lot of work there already but I fear that the new work will be close to the same amount!
My track is laid on Celcon blocks and behaved over the winter well, especially the new section which for half of it is two blocks high - the troubles of having a double slope to one lawn, and a requirement to end up back at the same elevation!
They are quite light, and easy to lay and join with cement, thay also cut very easily with a large tooth case hardened saw. I do admit though that because of the number I employed a builder to lay them, just before winter extended its icy and long, grip.

But first as you say the winter did a lot of damage, of which some seesm to be to the fence which is I think the first recipient of your care & repair system?
Best of luck with the Civil Engineering that is obviously now needed, and thanks for the photos of your new canvas for the Little Gladstone branch Mark 2, or is it 3.
Hope the car recovered

Re:The Little Gladstone Branch, MkII

Hi Alec
Living halfway down The Principality from you, I had a strip of heavily shaded garden (by a stone wall) - plants really struggled, etc. So I decided to build my railway in this area, but levitated by a couple of courses of HOLLOW nine inch concrete blocks - this will save me bending in later age and bring the surface up into daylight. Once I had levelled the base, I laid the bottom blocks on their side where I didn't want weed growth ( and provide drainage). The top blocks are stood in their normal position, thereby providing in situ potting! The actual track base is from 2" x 8" treated timber (also 12" wide sections to cope with curves) The blocks were levelled one-by-one and lastly, the timber screwed down. It would be quite a bit of extra work initially but might pay dividends later on..... see my 'Pics to go with Hello' & 'Film to go with Hello' for images.

Best of luck
Rob

The work I've decribed so far was some time ago now, the line is now built and running, (not finished , never is!) , I was not going to take any chances with it moving around in frost again, so earth, wooden posts, raised beds all were out of the window, so end of March this arrived!!
