YES IT WAS NICE OLD feeling with all quarry..loves it so u can do tht on yr logging and mines layout from this nice layout from breavercreek.....it blew me away with all exellent old time quarry........i mite do tht in one day.......just small ones....

Many thanks for your kind complimentary comments.
I am really glad that the layout is, even partially, successful in giving the feeling and atmosphere of the line, area and era on which it is based.
Creating 'little worlds' has always appealed to me and a garden railway gives a large enough canvas to try to carry it off!

I have built another township area, Point Rock, with a new saw mill complex, that I have not photographed yet, and I was hoping to do it this evening but it is a trifle wet up here at the mo. This new saw mill is the reason for the one in Arrowhead town going out of business and the impending redevelopment of the whole Arrowhead township area. Progress eh?

as for saving for a choo choo ride in Colorado 

the cumbres is slow really slow-as much as i love trains and the grande-it was a rather long day-alamosa actually has a coule of good restaurants both chinese and mex-otherwise a bit dismal-not a place to hang 

-but chama has great equipment and buildings making the trip worth it-just amazing


the D and S is truly spectacular the entire way-and good food in both silverton and durango-and peaks not unlike the alps-durango is great  as is ouray and telluride  and of course mesa verde-which you must see when you come to the area-youll need car and to drive on the wrong side-the pass between silvertion and ouray  (Red mountian) is 'exciting' by any standard- if you want to see a town like the one you've created -Lake City is also in the area and youd enjoy it

hope you make it soon-id strongly suggest the fall if you can choose-the leaves and cooler weather you know

Thanks for the tips about the Cumbres and the D&S. You have added to my sense of expectation!:love: When we actually get nearer to the possible trip I hope you do not mind if I quiz you in more detail about the features, timing etc? You can only glean so much from the web

I have the adobe station and a town house which is up in the drier more deserty Arbour Summit area of the layout. I had a chance of getting the white Santa Fe version of the station cheaply but wanted it to match the beige sand coloured town house as well as the surrounding rocks. So I painted and weathered it. It is, due to its style, a little more, how can I say, ..obvious... than my other buildings but it sits with some rocks and sort of seems to blend in okay. I used some weathered and 'sun bleached' 'planked' base plates to sit it on. Unfortunately it has to be placed on a curve and is not quite perfectly sited.
I will get a couple of photos when I take the ones of the new Point Rock township but the weather has been a bit rotten here over the last couple of days.

mike id be happy to share all that i know about the area, etc

one thing you should bear in mind too for the big picture
it is about 7 hours by car from durango to denver-know this well as i drove it regularly for about 5 years-once made it in 5.5 hours-in the my old saab 900! was lucky with the law 


and about 3 hours from alamosa (or as LGB spelled it, Almosa) to denver-

just in case you also plan on the colo rr museum and georgetown loop-both also extremely pleasant

so hw long have u been doing all these layout?..what make u admire it when u built it?
what is the garden look like without layout mike? all yr die cast cars and trucks are brillant!!
aslo all yr quarries stuffs..are they slates? from a bag?
i wishes i want to see yr layout...lol..it admire me tht i mite have a go with all these wonderful old time quarries u got with all these stuffs tht it blew me away...well done mike.
are these building items import from usa?

I am not sure if you are a member of the G Scale Society or not? The reason for my asking is that I did an article in their Autumn journal about how the layout started back in November 2006. I get 'urges' to do loads to the layout and then I will leave it alone for months just being a static diarama!

Here is part of the garden in 2005/6 before the layout was a twinkle in me eye

This is the Beaver Creek station area as it was in 2008 (it has changed a little bit since then)

This is the quarry area in 2008 but a few buildings and details have been added since then

coz im deafness..can lipreading very well...so i know somewhere in uk have member clubs..but i live in the east midland area--NOTTMSHIRE...
avent got a transport with me....lol...
how will i get in touches with who?...any idea?,,,anyone who mite know...thks u for yr help mike....wow what a lovely photos...kool......bet u are covered for insurance like mine!!!

As drawn, you're creating a reversing loop there, Steven - which (as has been much discussed on here recently) requires special wiring in analogue power or a little LGB/Massoth box of magic if you're on DCC. If you make the points a pair of left and right handers, however, all you've got is a very convoluted passing loop and it will work fine (but of course your train won't turn itself round, it'll just rejoin the main line in the same direction as it was going before) .....

Any track layout that makes a train turn round and head back the other way is, by definition, either a reversing loop or a Wye (triangle) - and in both cases will need special wiring for both DC or DCC.
