Storm 'Doris' swept through the land and hit Beaver Creek on the afternoon of the the 23rd February. On early inspection it was found that Beaver Creek station and yard area were the worst hit with Beaver Creek Quarries also feeling the brunt of the winds.
The damage was localised to certain areas with the rolling stock worst hit at the station and yards.

One man, who was climbing a ladder, was blown down but due to concussion and confusion, he continued to try to climb the ladder...even though it was now going nowhere...

At the quarry the electricity pylon was brought down as was the shipping depot gantry crane.
There was only one fatality, at the quarry, where an empty ore tipper truck was blown onto one of the workers at the Shipping depot....
As can be seen in the photo the work carried on while a doctor was summoned.... The quarry management never lets anything get in the way of profit....

The salvage and repair team were fast on the scene at Beaver Creek station to clear the track for the through trains.
The damage in the yards will have to wait
Passengers will also have to wait for a long time.

Man on ladder does not realise that he is not going anywhere....

Terrible fatality but work carries on. The Quarry management have no heart and profit is the only thing on their mind.

Ooh, that's nasty

Haven't been able to check on Green River shanty town today - had to go to das capital for w***.

That's retirement for you :devil::devil::devil:

Thankfully I just had a Bachmann Buffer stop blown from one end of the garden to the other and a windmill blown over, though one of the garden fence posts split, so that is a nice job for today..........

In the real world, Thursday wasn't a particularlty good day to do a trip to Wolverhampton by rail/tram - particularly if you saw the news reports of what happened there.....
Was something to say that the tram journey from Birmingham to Wolverhampton actually went faster than the Virgin Pendelino did for most of the Euston to Birmingham journey!

Definately a case for federal aid Mike. I'm sure Mr President will let you have a million or three to ease the disaster and restore ladder climbers to their right angle!

Too bad about the damage Mike. Unlike the guy climbing the ladder going nowhere, some of us are climbing the ladder going somewhere but never getting there.....LOL

Also, I spy with my little eye a Lionel floodlight tower. Good use of other products from different scales.

Curse that wind!
Was watching The Train last night, looks like you've had a visit from Burt Lancaster and the French resistance

ps
all the works of art Burt was saving for France last night and not one Van Clump

Any fallen Madonna's?

"Don't shoot until you can see the whites of their eyes!"
"What if they are wearing masks?"
"OK<, Don't shoot until you can see the whites of their masks!"

I like Mike's pics but not the circumstances that caused them to be taken! At least my line escaped much damage. The drive gates, which I finally closed yesterday (but must keep open tomorrow night according to the high winds forecast) suffered - the force even bent the 1/4" thick metal latch as well as tearing off one of the drop bolts and ripping up a concrete paving block.

One of my newspaper Clients has an exposed location, and large powered gates.. They look like T&G wood, but are actually steel. - Well metal of some sort??
One had come loose in the wind, whipped round, and ripped itself off the hinges / ruddy great steel buried in the two and a half brick square pillar.. Damaged the brickwork as well.

It seems we copped it quite badly here in the Midlands.

Nicely done dioramas Mike.
"...we don't make a diorama out of a crisis..." :)

All was real as it happened Dave... except of course for the salvage crew and the police.
There was also a ton of debris (twigs, leaves etc) strewn over the scenes but I removed that before taking the photos.

All was real as it happened

No... it's all fake, fake news... the media made it up, it never happened, I know because the people tell me, the people love me, people queue around the block to come and listen to me. It was all done by the security services, they faked it. But we will get it all cleared up, I have people out there now working on it, it will be better than before, the Mexicans will pay for it, we will make the railway great again but we will not let the media come and see it, they are all liars and will not report the truth....

I checked out Green River shanty town yesterday.

All is thankfully OK.

The strange thing is that it doesn't' matter which direction the wind is from, the miner's cabin doors are always blown open, and they open outwards :eek::eek:

Have you checked for Firedamp? You'll need a canary of course!

There is an air of bliss showing (amongst other airs). Silent but deadly?

Mick, I echo your sentiments. I cannot say what I would like to say here on this forum. But what I will say is that I am truly afraid of our future with our present leadership in Washington.
