Solar powered lighthouse.

I bought one of these from ECR. Now I find out they are available from quite a lot of other sources.

It is sighted in the centre of my garden and should receive some 8 hours of sunshine (that is so long as the sun keeps shining) during the day.

I'm sure others have also bought them from where ever and wondered what the consensus was, please?

works fine bit bright at night, mine didnt last long before wind driven water got in but longevity can be increased by applying a layer of silicone on top of the solar panel as per Big clive's video below, worked fine this time around and lasts the whole night, in the summer.

Had mine a few months, but again driving rain got in, left in the garage to dry out.

I have brought 2 now, as the first one got rain damaged.

I now take the lamp house itself indoors for the winter months, but leave the main building out in all weathers....

I have never known a solar garden light that can be said to be reliable!

Got mine from B and M. Put some Grease on the Electrical Contacts, screws that hold it together and a bit of Silicone on the Joints to the in inards. Been working pretty well 2 Winters outdoors now and still fine. A litte bit of TLC goes a long way. My Current thinking with these things where possible is to grease any wires to LED's and other Electrical wires as they are generally cheepo Steel these days so not made to last long. But this can be circumnavigated a little with a small amount of effort.

Despite my usual gloomy pessimism the lighthouse worked fine; though when it finally stopped flashing heavens knows zzzzzzzz? I covered the top with a plastic food bag in case it rained.

I have this idea of cutting up a large transparent pop bottle to protect from the elements it in a more permanent manner.

I have had 2 from B&M but they are not long lived. A hefty clout often gets the lamp to rotate but it is a short lived cure.
On the subject of longevity of solar lights I have two tri-colour globes which have soldiered on for well over 20yrs with just one battery replacement in that time.
