A friend in Australia sends me a copy of The Garden Whistle magazine each month via email. The Garden Whistle is a New Zealand garden railway magazine. In this month's issue there is a store bought item that uses an empty soda can, supplied by the buyer, to mimic the gondola.

And here is what I did today;

A clever idea - and self-reversing too! Kids have it too easy these days!

A neat conversion, which sounds very quiet in operation. An interesting addition to any layout!

What's the centre-cab loco in the background?

That's a USA Trains I kit bashed a bit. It came to me with a poorly done paint job, done by the previous owner. I removed the existing can and built one using 1/4" thick plexiglass. The R/C equipment is a Railboss-4. Power is supplied by a 14.8 volt Li-on battery. I wanted to give it a more 1:20 feel. Here's a short video of it in action.

I think it is plumb-crazy the way you have mounted that gondola!

Oh and there was me thinking it was one of these CIE Walker Diesels from the West Clare. Sure you will see the similarity. Major differents of course being that it is a Wizzy Cranks!

It is, isn't it. That was my quick, down and dirty method. I wanted to use a piece of CPVC tubing but couldn't find any on hand. The copper is a bit heavy.

That was exactly what I was thinking of; so the bash has certainly resulted in something more 3 foot-ish. I wish I was brave enough to take on one of the Worsley Works etched kits. Maybe one day...

I scratch built one to 15mm ft scale many years ago when I was into Irish NG big time. Stuffed in a Box at the moment awaiting a return to health. Was a Battery Job that burnt out due to frayed wires in a Metal Body. Next time I will be more careful!
