Small Diesel Sound Options

I have an LGB 20630 diesel switcher. I am curious about my options for sound. I think the LGB 65002 European module is close to what it sounded like. However, I am wondering what other options are out there. I am DC, but may switch to battery or DCC in the future. While I’d like options, I’d also like flexibility.

I am concerned that the engine might start rolling on DC before the 65002 kicks on. Any experience with this unit?

TIA

There used to be an 'analogue motor control board' which would retard the motors to allow the track power to come up enough to 'wake' the electronics and sound.

I think I found the last pair of these in Europe for a job, about two years ago?

I have reverse engineered them, but really they need a pcb designed for them, and the volumes I could sell, hardly make this viable.

You can go really cheap, with a rock crawler diesel 'growl', or you can use a MyLocoSound module..
If you go DCC, then the sky is the limit.

If have you set a course for DCC, or battery even, then you can go slightly mad and select one from this lot - LokSound 5 European Sound files - ESU They probably have an exact match, recorded from the prototype. Their cards can act in a regular DCC track powered environment or, with the correct reciever (RX) and transmitter (TX), Fosworks presently, can operate as both an electric speed controller (ESC) and sound module for battery/rc operation. No unplanned obselecence ! I have one or two of theirs for my US logging fleet and D&RGW locos. Sound perfect to my ears, especially with a distictive loco. Max.

I think making that decision between battery and DCC would be a good plan before you start, if you want all the bells and whistles available in DCC then fit DCC sound cards, you can have battery powered DCC.
