“Bachmann Spectrum Southern Pacific Flat Car G scale model railway wagon” currently on offer on ebay at a fixed price of £195 plus £11.99 postage within the UK. Gold wheels, perhaps?

A Spectrum model would probably go for about £110 - although prices have been pushing north: still a bit too steep though

What is the difference between the Spectrum version and, e.g., the shorter wheelbase version which comes with the boiler load? I paid about £70 as I recall for one of those, new, when they came out?

Spectrum is Fn3 (1:20.3) totally different beast with different bogies, wheels and higher level of detail.

Wider, longer, but I don't have any piccies on my lappy.

Thank you for enlightening me. I still think it’s either extortionate, or a con. It’s only a glorified mass-produced plastic toy, when all is said and done - and I’m as guilty as the next one when it comes to buying them to play with. But I paid Aristo less than £300 for their final 2-8-0 just as they were shutting down, so why on earth would I - or anyone else - spend 2/3rds of that on said wagon? Nuff said.

As with any 'collectable'...
It is worth what someone will pay for it!

You can play trains with a plastic LGB 2-10-2 or the same in metal from Aster..
From 12 feet away, you would probably not be able to tell the difference..
But to play with the latter, would cost you considerably more!

Oh for sure, at £195 it's extortionate, if I had a need (and space in the shed) I'd probably have to pay £110 - I have two Bachmann Fn3 flats (I think) but I didn't pay over £100 for either of 'em, but that was a few years ago now.

Mmm, not a very good close up but behind the two Connies, one Bachman Spectrim flat, one Accucraft flat, one Accucraft set of disconnects, one Bachmann Big Hauler log car (modified) and one Northwest Shortlines caboose - all 15mm : 1ft except the Big hauler log car which you can just about get away with at this scale in a mixed consist.

The most noticeable feature is the width, which fits in with the Connies, and from memory is about 135 mm.

Fn3 is an accurate scale of 15mm : 1 ft, thus giving a 3ft gauge on 45 mm track - a few of us on this forum indulge
