Sandstone & Termite Autumn 2014

Three of us got together to run some trains in glorious Sydney autumn weather. Unfortunately I found some damaged track, so it limited our runs, but did require lots more shunting for point-to-point operation.  Some more maintenance required!

The video includes Keith`s live steam modified Roundhouse `Billy`,  Geof`s Queensland Railways PB15 on a container train and my big blue Garratt and large diesel.  Geof`s trains were to test clearances on my new track.
It may be the last video of the Garratt as the rear motor block just stopped working and I`ve yet to get around to inspecting it.
I used a new keyfob `spy camera` for the on-train segments. It is a dog compared to my old one (which died). The avi files it produces won`t load into Virtualdub (v1.9.10), so I have to convert them to mpg so I can remove the timestamp in VD, then to wmv in Movie maker.  The reduced quality is obvious.  Also it`s 720x480 pix, where my Canon is 640x480 and Movie Maker does some funny things when I mix them.
Anyhow, here`s the 6 minute video. At least the audio is good!

Here`s Geof`s 5 minute video of the same day too.

Greg, the points shown in the first couple of minutes of Geof's video are ingenious, I assume they are not prototypical. Have you done any write up on them before, I'd be interested to know a bit more about the idea and how they are made.

Great vids, Greg. Good to see the trestles and sandstone ledge section are now back in action after the track refurb. I liked the brave attempt at having the train running over the camera. Hope the cameraman is recovering well.

I can remember being very concerned about the cameraman at the start of the Six-Five Special TV pop programme way back in the Dark Ages.. Now I really am showing my age.

Nice video Greg. Guess the track crew was not happy about the damaged track. Its all part of the fun. Any plans of coming to the states? we have to try and meet up still.
No firm plans but we'll probably be in Boston in your autumn. Maybe you should pay us not to come -last time we brought a hurricane.

They sure aren't prototypical. More info here:

The first pic uses aluminium rail, and the second is just normal brass rail nail to wood sleepers. They are quick to make but harder to instal as you have to line up all 6 rails perfectly. They only work on a solid base where you can screw them down.

Rik,
So many thanks for that nostalgic clip of the 6-5. My memory of it was the Forth Bridge Clip, would have sworn it was an A4, but clearly not and what an eclectic selection of Trains and Locations they used.
Gregh,
I also do wonder what and how the Track was trashed. Perhaps you have larger Hail down there?

I notice a point lever on the conventional point in the last picture on your web page. Is that home made? I'm working on making my own point levers from brass tube - just wondered if you had already trodden that path.

Rik
PS - Now nearly got all the bits I need for the Picaxe r/c points controller - hopefully make a start on it in the next couple of days
