electronics, computers and scratchbuilding

The Garden Railway Addicts of Sutherland Shire held their Christmas run day on 17th Dec and later adjourned to a restaurant for dinner. (I categorically deny I chose a restaurant because it is right beside a 1:40 grade railway!)
If you`d like to see moving pictures with sound you can press here. You will even glimpse a couple of operators.

But these old fashioned still photographs will illustrate some of the running.
Geof`s scratchbuilt rail truck did the track inspection. Geof is a whizz with sound recorder cards for sound effects, and this tiny truck has two – engine sound and horn.

Geof`s model of the Queensland 1620 class brings the Grasslander excursion train into Sandstone station. Geof has 5 (I think) sound cards controlled from our `standard` Hobbyking 2.4 GHz controller.

Later in the day, Geof`s model of Queensland PB12 provided some steam action for the Grasslander.

Keith`s Roundhouse live steam “Billy” did the pickup goods runs – here at Lilyvale. Billy is fitted with Slo-Mo flywheel and full RC.

My Goose provided the local passenger – here at Melaleuca.

My model of the Tasmanian Dubs-built 4-8-0 ran most of the main Goods work.

and my USA trains F3 diesel did some goods work too. It`s largely unchanged except for replacing the front motor block with a couple of plastic wheels in a block of wood, and fitting 2.4 GHz RC and sound.

At the close of day, the overnight Sandstone express passes Lilyvale. The loco was my first scratchbuild way back in 1997, based on a Bachmann Big Hauler which is now showing its age.

We then adjourned to an Italian restaurant.

The ladies tried to arrange for the boys to have their backs to the railway track, but I resisted. We boys discussed big trains and small trains while the ladies discussed whatever ladies discuss. But even the ladies could not ignore the noise of 10,000 diesel horses 30m away, dragging 4 thousand tonnes of coal up the 1:40. Could only have been bettered if they had been Garratts!
