The Garden Railway Addicts of Sutherland Shire (GRASS) and the Ladies Auxiliary decided on a Christmas get-together on Friday the 13[sup]th[/sup] at Sandstone & Termite.
The first problem arose when we returned from a few days away to find a two large trees down across the baseboard at Ti-tree station.
So some quick work with saw was required to clear a path to get trains through.
Then Keith called to advise he was off the hospital to have his ring ‘wing’ repaired, but he and Pat made a later appearance and his left hand was able to handle a beverage.
The weather for the party was ‘just right’ around 30C, but humid enough to make you wonder if your deodorant was up to the task.
Three of us started early for a some serious train running.

Geof’s tank at Ti-tree

But just as the ladies arrived with the ‘nibbles’ a loud ‘crack’ indicated that more of the tree had given away and landed on Ti-tree station. So it was all hands to the saws and pruners to get the track clear again. A number of (little) people were injured in this accident but as this is the 1950s, no-one was ‘offered counseling’ and no TV crews descended from the skies to interview witnesses who would have described it a ‘just like a bomb’.
With the arrival of the food and beverages, train operations reduced to a couple of trains chasing their tails around the yard.

With the nibbles consumed we repaired inside for the feast prepared by the ladies.
Then three of us braved the mozzies for a night run. I had placed flickering LED ‘tea candles’ inside many buildings and carriages.
Ti-tree station is deserted.
The last train departs Melaleuca
And so it all came to an end, when the last train had departed Melaleuca.

Then it was time to pack up in the dark!!!!
