Ruritanian Railways - 2012

Peter does Ruritania have a native breed of giant cat as I'm sure they look like giant paw prints on the platform?
Seriously - looking grand :) Great to see the first 2095 of 2012!

Even more exotic than that in reality. Marks on the new platforms (which thankfully can be wiped clean) show that the culprits are the peacock "owned" by one of the neighbours and pheasants. All of them seem to have a good peck at the 10mm gravel (another reason for invisible ballast) and the various model figures.

By the way, thanks for all the kind comments and suggestions chaps. It's nice to know that others appreciate the ramblings of my strange mind!

Peacocks & peasents - says it all, comrade Whatlep, says it all.....

The reports from deepest Ruritania always enlighten and entertain, Peter. Not all lines have such character, and reading the reports that are made in such eloquent terms always improves my day! May His Benevolence continue to support the national railway system for many years.

Work resumed on the border station's platform lights today. All 7 are now in position ready for wiring up. I am really impressed by the appearance of these lights. They are made by Miniature Scale Models (http://www.miniaturescalemodels.co.uk < Link To www.miniaturescalemodels.co.uk), though mine came from AnDel as the cost including P&P was less that way!

Underneath, self-adhesive copper strip has been used to provide a power bus. The black tape both keeps the wires neat and makes soldering easier by aligning the bare wires with the copper strip.

The first 3 lights have been soldered up already, using the "grain of wheat" bulbs supplied with them, after I failed miserably to get any LEDs and their wires down the very narrow brass tube which forms the lights' core. I've now found both some smaller warm white LEDs and some ultra-thin wire, so I'll have one more go at fitting LEDs. Expect some very basic language from west of the Malvern Hills over the next day or two.....

Whatever the result of LED experiments, the platform and other station buildings WILL be installed before the end of March.

nice peter.. got the same lights to go on my new station platforms

Good luck with the installation of the LEDs. Keep us posted!

Ruritanian Railways is pleased to announce that lighting work has been completed at the border station. All lights are now installed and proven operational. Management is now eagerly awaiting darkness to appreciate the full effects!

A view from the station forecourt shows the imposing aspect of the new lamp standards and long, long platform. Minor work remains to be completed on the platform (painting ends and securing pins), but a formal opening is expected very soon.

A similar view from the "country end" of the station proves that the platform lights really work!

Very nice and really slick Peter. It is good to see that the Ruritanian management is broadminded and fosters the employment of very friendly workers as it seems that the two rail men are just that.

Thanks for the kind comments chaps. As James suggests, some access to the station area is needed across the track. The station building area should really be at a higher level than the rest of the complex, but I haven't decided how best to do that. Finally, I intend to have a light on the side of the station facing the goods shed to illuminate the yard area. A few more people would help too!

There's always something to do.... 8|

The new platform and lighting at the border station was formally opened by HSH Prince Rudolf this afternoon. His Serene Highness arrived on board the royal train, having enjoyed lunch on the trip from Zenda. Platform ends and various attachment points have been painted to match the surface (more or less!).

In recognition of this magnificent achievement, Ruritanian Railways MD was presented with a new company vehicle. Somewhat to his disappointment, it was not a Skoda.

Both trains - if that's the right word for a VW railbus - gathered at the new platform. The difference in dimensions is striking.

Clearances between lights and trains and valve gear and platform are tight, but carefully calculated. Oh yes they were. It wasn't dumb luck at all... :nail:

Following the short, yet moving opening ceremony, Prince Rudolf departed for Zenda, passing the ever-present rake of hoppers, laden to the brim with invisible ballast for export.

A final shot of Polapiko with the hoppers passing the station, new lights, platform and all.

if i were a fat pork pie eating Ruritainian i would be very careful about leaning on a lampost as a mallet approached....

Oh and it is wierd to look at that close up of the silver wheels and blue rods and think "phowar that looks nice"?
