Ruritanian Railways - 2012

WOW Peter now i can see why you haven't bridged that brook .
The nursery that i work at was flooded by last weeks thunder storms 1000's of plants went rushing down the road and ended up a mile down the road also flooding the houses across the road have spent several days clearing up peoples gardens collecting plastic pots .

Its hard to believe that little stream at the bottom of your garden could change so dramatically. Great piccys but for all the wrong reasons. Wonder what it'll be like down stream at Worcester and Tewkesbury. Hope the rebuild goes well and the line is reopened soon.

Sad Pictures to see :thumbdown::thumbdown: Awful stuff.

Well what can one based in beatiful hot central centralisti say? Good thing you had a hefty collection of hardcore and I hope the damage will be minimal.
Where have all the amusing smilies gone? Washed away?

Oo 'eck, the Dove and the Derwent :@ that has to have hit somebody hard

Gosh, that is a shock Peter!

But at least it looks like it can be recovered and working again soon....

Sorry to see that Peter. Amazing the change in character of the harmless little brook! I hope it isn't too damaged and you get lucky with the electronincs/point motors. It is good that the Ruritainians are such a strong people and times like theses....

By Heck Peter there is a bit of damp over there in Ruritania.
Any trout for dinner? And how will the master do his daily trampoline work-out?;)

Your hard core bags have done the job and it looks like RR will be back to normal running very soon

Trust Peter to take his modelling prototype to the next leve. Just because he hears the real rail way is flooded and all at a stand, he has to re-create it.

On a serious note that sucks Peter. If you need any one to help supervise any rebuild work, I'll gladly volunteer. I can stand around and watch like the best of them.

I do believe the Ruritanians are repeating themselves - I seem to remember similar reports a few years ago.

I'm afraid I'm a bit too far south to offer navvy services, only useless comments

Phew, please it stopped rising when it did, bad enough though, and a heck of a worry. Good luck with the repairs, sorry I'm to far away to offer any help, well expect for moral support that is.

I am commanded by Prince Rudolf to express his gratitude for the many kind comments offered by our friends worldwide. Rest assured that engineers from across Ruritania are drinking tea and working out how to get traffic moving again even as you read this. Ruritanian Railways will be back - as soon as it stops ruddy well raining.

Sorry to see this. I hope things are not too damaged and that you will soon be up and running again..
If there is anything I can do to help let me know. (I could look after your locos for you!)

It's been a strange year. We changed a planned indoor meet to outdoor in March because the weather was nice but since then the weather has been more suiting for indoor meets.

I offer my empathy to the resilient citizens of Ruritania.
in an attempt to take advantage of the recent climate change has the Prince considered construction of a fleet of shipping vessels to compliment his railway network?
I can just see a transfer of the Ruritanian ballast from hopper wagons to barges at a wharfside location.

:onphone: Shhh, but word down at the docks is that Ruritania has made a stealth purchase and may invade next doors garden once they've painted it the Royal Pullman blue. :rolf:

That's the most positive thing I've read about this sorry saga.
I'm a bit too far away to offer manual labour but I'm happy to assist if required with resuscitating any electrical gubbins that may be economically posted.

Hello Peter,
all the best for restarting your railway.
If I were you I would rebuilt it on a higher level(I know that i`m not the first with
this suggestion)

Damn - someone's spotted the battleship we bought off the Swiss navy!

Anyway, as things dry out, the Zenda depot crew have time on their hands, so they decided to do a quick battery conversion this afternoon to keep their spanners whirling. As "Mighty Mouse" (our Schoema diesel) is often occupied with the hoppers or shunting at Zenda station, the depot needed a new diesel shunter. A Davenport locomotive has been acquired from agents in Germany of the famous Bachmann corporation to act as depot "pet".

As usual, the Zenda crew took everything to bits to see if things would fit without the need for a trail car. Luckily 10 AAA cells and a Cliff Barker receiver will just fit (and we mean just - no slack whatsoever!). Charging socket and on/off switch fit underneath the loco at the front in space provided for a loudspeaker.

In the previous picture you'll notice that the cab had been removed. This was not intentional. Zenda's crew found that the Davenport is far less robust than the usual round of LGB and Piko kit. Picking up the loco by the cab resulted in two screws instantly stripping which in turn caused the rear securing lugs to snap. The depot foreman was not impressed and was heard to mutter "Oh dear" quite loudly. Happily, some dabs of Ruritanian superglue enabled the cab to be repositioned for a "works shot".

The loco then proceded to Zenda depot yard and indulged in a little light shunting, before the crew broke for tiffin

A much more successful day in Ruritania!

P.S. for a full review of the Davenport which seems entirely accurate from Ruritanian experience, see: http://www.girr.org/girr/tips/tips10/davenport_tips.html

Hi Peter - what did you strip out to make room? The inbuilt circuit board? It's worth knocking up some buffers and removing the footboards I think - but she looks good :) Lovely little runner - even on track power...

Here is the EJ&KLRs version, along with our Schoema...

Buffers, wipers, handrails, horn, door handles, removed rivet detail and Davenport branding and a repaint. Cheap and cheerful - although I keep wondering about building a new body to better represent the O&K shunters on the Zillertalbahn.
