The CFR has taken delivery of another steam locomotive. This time it’s a Roundhouse Engineering “Millie”. Millie is from the Roundhouse basic series range.
Here she is on the rolling road:-

Locomotive running at 40psi, a nice plume of steam coming from the chimney.

Millie is a manually controlled, gas fired(Butane), slip eccentric locomotive. I have added the pressure gauge and safety valve cover. She has been renamed “Megan” after a very good friend of the CFR.
Millie/Megan is the third slip eccentric locomotive to join the CFR fleet, she will serve alongside a Jennie and a Bertie. She will haul the CFR heritage stock when she enters service.

What is the 'top link' on the motion?? - First picture..
It appears to come from the valve-chest (so outside of the wheels) but passes behind the second wheel?

Is it the control arm for the reverser, or driven from that second wheel/axle?

It just look's a little strange, in that picture. :wondering::think:

It is the Slip Eccentric reverce rod.

Phil, I believe that it is the slip eccentric arm, it is connected to the rear axle.

The rather obvious and odd-looking 'arm' can easily be toned down by the application of some matte-black paint.

Tac, I’ve already done that on my other Millie and will do the same on this one.

Have to say that makes an enormous difference, Millie is a nice looking loco only spoilt by those eccentric rods that you have now nicely lost.

What a big difference, as Jon said the eccentric rods certainly do look better if you can't see them!!!

I’m rather pleased with the results, this is the fourth locomotive where I have painted the slip eccentric rods to disguise them. With my next Millie I intend to paint the wheels, cylinder covers and pressure cover in deep Brunswick green. The coupling rods will be painted red and the slip eccentric rods black.
