Rotary OY Clears The Way

Richie dont loose heart dam fine model anyho.... from the look of things i think the panel below the rotor is the problem as its hitting the snow before the blades have a chance to touch the snow could you not fit a triangle shaped card pointing forward a few mm above the rails so it cuts under and into the snow forcing the white stuff over the top into the blades

I think you could be right there Tony the panel does seem to stop the snow from entering the blades ,it tends to just push it up into a mound which goes into a block of ice . I found when i threw the snow into the blades it made a good job of blowing it out . Will get the plow in the work shop and have another go at fixing the problem  All good fun

Cheers Ian & Colin glad you enjoyed it  Will get it running right one day just need the right kind of snow

Hi Richie
Well done in getting her running again. I had great fun trying to get my USAT Rotary through the 6 inches of snow! I had to keep on unclogging her. The flanger worked great but was quite hard for the locos to push with the rotary......three locos next time!!!
I only cleared enough to get the ski train with the sd70 up and running.
Me piccies are on the 'Snow comes to BCRR...'

Cheers Mike any video footage of your OM plow working ??

Looking at a pic of the OY the cutting blades have no scoops in front of them so i may take out the front scoop on mine to see if it makes a differance .

Not this time. It was so cold and I was so intent on getting the stuff onto the rails and controlling the train that I just sopped it and took stills. The front of the USAT cutter does look like the real one with movable blades and all, but it too has a bottom flange that is different to the real thing. Obviously the Rio Grande boys removed it to make it easier to get to the snow.

Cheers Mike for the close up pic of the USA Trains Rotar housing it's looks just like how i made mine with the scoop on the base .

i think the main problem was the wet icy uk snow! I have ploughed very succesfully in sub zero fluffy snow but last week no joy. I agree try moving the scoop - interesting that this has all happened in 1:1 judging from photos above.

Hi Ian
I think that some of the problem was the snow as it was very wet and icey and just got pushed into a mound have changed the front scoop a bit, spray painted it tonight with red oxide primer . Will post some pics later.

You are up early Shawn, or is it late?.......

Great video ichie. Your line looks great with snow. I love that rotary it came out great. Wet snow is tough to work with I think most plows would struggle in wet sticky snow.
Cheers Shawn have just made some changes to the front scoop of the plow won't know how effective they are until it snows again .

Well it is certainly look terrific and is ready for action Richie. Reckon you could test it with dry sand! Might strip the paint though............and anybody else standing near :rolf::rolf:

Cheers Mike will have to get some ploystyrene balls and give it ago :rolf:
Do like your pic across the bottom with your ski train and SD70 :thumbup:Did get chloe and Sara to add a pic to mine following your instruction from before but had no joy down loading will have to try again one day .
