Been looking for a end car for my sugar cane train, and after talking to Eric in Hawaii about their sugar can trains and him sending me some pictures of their cabooses, I went on the look out for a small caboose looking car. Considered a Bachman "Little big hauler" caboose which was about the right size and not very expensive. Then as I get updates just about everyday from Pinterest regarding my interests, I found a picture of an actual very small caboose rotting in a field and I just thought it was about the cutest thing ever. So I decided to copy it best as possible. I started with a Bachmann full-size combine body missing parts and roof, cut out 3 windows body section + the ends of the car. Also removed a small section of the car window were it met the end section so that both ends of the car would match. Used part of the chassis and moved the truck bolster to the correct location. After gluing the chassis I found that the passenger car truck was too long and would not fit between the steps so I removed the wheel brake shoes on both ends. Made the roof out of black kydex plastic which has a pebble finish on one side and scribed lines like roll roofing from front to rear. Then cut a hole in it for the cupola to sit.. might put some seats in it for the workers to sit but still thinking about that. Even though the real caboose was lacking cat walks and ladders at the ends I decided to add those just to make sure it looked like a caboose and those parts came from a Bachmann caboose but cut down. Added the Sugar Shack Sugar Co logo and weathered, Bill

Brilliant little "bash", Bill! :)

Just confirms the theory that there is a prototype for everything.....

Jack My sister lives in Sarasota, I had made an building for her which is mine until I quit railroading and then becomes hers and that is because we both had the same problem, where did the money go. I've made

buildings for all my children with some type of attachment to each. Did this for GRW magazine and just copied it for this. Maybe if I get down that way I'll look you up.

Friend of my wife's gave her a old birdhouse thinking maybe I could use it with my trains, it was made of composite wood and pretty much shot, but it had a nice and unusual style. I had some left over Pola building parts ( same ones I've been using for several years ) that were damaged by hurricanes in 2004. I've built a sanding house, coaling tower, gas station, and water tower from some of the pieces, but the supply is getting low. This particular building was made from the front of a Pola bank building, the back also came from the same building , the 2 sides I think were from sheriff's office. roof was from old scankit engine house, and dormer detail was from Grandt line detail parts and used with a slight modification. Support timbers for front porch were from PVC lumber originally ripped for water tank that I did. Building is lite with a $.98 patio solar powered light from Wal-Mart, you can see it in the picture of the back of the building. Being as it's main components came from a bank and the birdhouse had a stately look I named it the Bank of Barnwell. Growing up my mother would always convince myself and sister that it was best to secure our money in her bank where she would take care of it and save it for us. We could have it back at any time we wanted for a good reason. Only problem we never seemed to have a reason good enough. As I got older I started calling it the bank of Hotel California, where your money checked it but never checked out, but when I finally moved out on my own I had enough money to make my live easer from the start, all due to the "Bank of Barnwell"

Nice buildings. What a great idea for lighting. Send a message if you head down this way always ready to talk trains .

Smart little caboose Bill,I must say I prefer yours with the catwalks etc on the roof than the prototype pic and me thinks seats would be good idea as you can see through the windows, any interior details would show up fine, only my opinion though, you mention about bashing a L`ll Hauler item so one pic of my bash that has seen better days and needs a complete rebash bash:confused:,as it`s one of my cars that are left outside 24/7,the cars in the pic are some of the rake also, next project/s will be to revamp this and a toytrain item to upgrade the rest of my caboose stock(still 3 more to do)The worst job was to cut out the front and rear cupola windows. It has 2 coupling heights, one for standard cars and one for L`ll hauler items.great little runner.`OL NO 49 005.jpg

I believe that picture is you real caboose!!!! Just makes me want to TOY Bash that much more. I'm bashing a caboose and a box car to create a work car for the Brandywine & Lenape maintenance crew.
All Aboard
