Does anyone know what sort of soundcard is factory-fitted into the RH Criccieth Castle?

Depends on how old the locomotive is. The first batch were fitted with Brian Jones sound cards. This card provided engine, horn and air brake sound.

Yes, its indeed a Mtroniks. The sound however seems to be specially for CC. Non of the sounds on offer by Mtroniks is equal to the Roundhouse supplied.

I was so disappointed with the MTronics sound in my 'Harlech Castle' that I changed it for one of Peter Spoerer's more realistic 'clapped-out old diesel engine' systems from 'Loco-Sound'.

To MY ears it is now a whole lot more like the real thing.

YMMV.
