Requesting A Refund

I maid a purchase from a seller on Ebay that was new to the game. He has a zero feedback, but I put some faith in him as we all have started on Ebay with a zero feedback. The item hasn't arrived by the last date it was supposed to arrive. I have sent the seller five messages to which he has not replied. A tracking number was never provided.

Ebay says to go to the item and open a request. I tried that and there is no option for that action. Can anyone enlighten me on how to proceed ?

IIRC you have to wait a certain time before you can register non-arrival.

From eBay's help page...
  1. Go to Purchase history.
  2. Select More actions beside your item and then I didn't receive it.
  3. Tick the box beside I want a refund or I want the item.
  4. You have the option of adding a message to the seller.
  5. Select Send request.

I think it’s a ten day waiting Period. I receved a full refund from eBay When a seller flaked out on me by not shipping

I know it is 10 days before negative feedback can be left, and though I have had refunds been a while now and eBay has changed.

There is a period to allow for late delivery, and for the parties to communicate.
But you should get a full refund. - Though the monies may well be in 'limbo' for up to 21 days.

Anyone who sells 'professionally' we try to sort a problem in a timely Manor, as it affects their ratings, and with some services, how quickly they can get their money out.

Best not to go for a new seller, give them time to get some positive feedback. Whatever it was you wanted is likely to come up again with a patient wait. As for me when I started selling on ebay I flogged low value cheep items till I got a good supply of feedback before selling the expensive stuff.

Yeah, you do need to be careful with the sellers with no track record. They burn and loot for a few pence then pop up elsewhere all squeaky clean again. E-parasites.
Ebay tends to favor the buyer so just be patient Madman, Go through the correct resolution process and all should work out and the seller will likely disappear. Dissipated into mere bits and bytes never to be seen again.
Ebay knows that without secure patrons, there is no agora then they make no money. :)

“EBay tends to favour the buyer” - they sure seem to these days.

Just sold an item, posted it out as I said in the listing, confirmation received from courier it was delivered and signed for yet eBay are keeping funds ”on hold” for two weeks until they hear from the buyer.

I’ve asked buyer to confirm item was received but no response. So during the next two weeks the buyer can make use of the item, sell it on, break it, etc. and can then claim it was defective when it arrived. Net result - I no longer have an item to sell, I have no funds and buyer has got something for free. It’s not just sellers who are “parasites”.

That is exactly why I ceased to use ebay for selling items.

For sure. There are plenty of buyers looking for a free ride too. They will find any discrepancy and try to exploit that. Even just being friendly in messages, some will see that as a vulnerability.
Certain categories seem to have more opportunists than others. A friend lost a few dollars because the seller had proof of delivery to his post code but not specifically his address. We figured the seller just posted a tracked envelope to a stranger in his area and claimed that the item was delivered.
One thing to check is the seller dashboard and your seller level. When you post late, have several returned items you have sold, disputes and even not replying to messages can be a detriment to your seller level. Good to keep it above standard and be goody two shoes.
No one else can see it but if it becomes too low, eBay will hold funds for a few weeks as punishment.
