Refreshments Room

Just beginning to develop the forecourt area of my main station (Beeston Market) and decided to construct a Refreshments Room based on a wooden building which used to stand beside Beeston & Tarporley Station between the wars.

I don't have enough space to construct the whole building and so have reduced it in size a bit

Have got as far as making all the walls ....

Have found someone online who will laser-cut the cast iron filigree panel above the door - as with all my constructions, the panel is 'inspired' by the original

Still a fair bit to do - eventually it will have an interior but for now I will be just happy to finish it.

The refreshment room is a romantic notion of the past - except at Kings Lynn :nod::nod:

Nice work! How have you made the front door -it looks very close to the original, so I'm guessing it's scratch built and not a convenient purchase?

Nope - it's all scratchbuilt so far - plasticard

Latest developments - now been painted but awaiting delivery of the filigree panel, installation of the signs, a roof(!) and some judicious weathering (I hate anything which looks too pristine!)DSCF0069.JPG DSCF0070.JPG DSCF0071.JPG DSCF0074.JPG

By heck, a lovely little structure that is.

Next stage ..... Adding the signs and posters. The text-based signs composed as Text Boxes in MS Word, printed on to self adhesive vinyl sheet, covered in clear sticky-backed plastic and either fixed directly to the boards or fixed to 0.5mm thick plasticard and glued on. The 'Lyons' and 'Wills' enamel signs were downloaded as images from the internet and their perspectives adjusted in Serif Draw Plus to make them now square-on. They were then printed and mounted as above. Still awaiting delivery of the filigree panel and need to make the roof and the interior, but getting closer to finishing.

Great work Rik
I have been to that cafe (the one that is actually there now) many times.
Hi Paul - unfortunately that's now closed. It was a good cafe but I think they struggled to get enough custom.

It's been a while since an update on this project. The main reason being that I have been awaiting the delivery of the laser-cut filigree panel which goes above the door. That arrived last week and so I've installed it and finished off the roof (which is only temporarily fixed in place until I finish off the interior)
