Railclamps

Just out of interest for anyone that needs Bridge Clamps. Though Hillman have gone out of production, Glendale Junction are having their own BRIDGECLAMPS ONLY manufactured by a local Engineer. Nice to know that these essential items are still available.

The bridge clamps are a big deal, the picture looks like an identical copy of the original hillmans.

How do they have hillman clamps in stock when hillman went out of business years ago?

Greg
Sorry Greg perhaps you might like to read my post #41 again?

I did, you state they are making the bridge clamps ONLY... (This would imply they are NOT making any other clamps)

I went to their site, it indicates they have OTHER clamps in stock...

How do they have new stock of OTHER THAN bridge clamps after all this time? No one in the US has them.

Was he hoarding them? No matter, just curious. There's lot of people who used them and would want to buy more.

Greg

Hm not sure on that looking in full at his advert, I doubt he will have that many but can ask if you like. Because of postage and other things it did make sence to buy in bulk. When I got my Hillmans I ordered in modest bulk picking up my first lot from the Youth Hostel in San Diego. The second lot were delivered for another US trip to a friend that I stayed with near New York. Richie Moncrief now sadly passed away a considerable exponent in the art of G Scale Modelling.

I got a reply from Glendale, they confirmed that they are making an "improved" copy (copy is my word but the pictures look identical to real hillman bridge clamps).

I liked and use the Hillman bridge clamps (have several lift out sections) so if they are improved that is great. I'm going to find a way to get someone to ship them from the UK to here.

I also asked how they had regular hillman clamps in stock. Perhaps I am causing an issue, and perhaps they are copying the design exactly, but I think there's little chance of someone getting sued internationally even if an exact duplicate was being made and it was patented.

I mentioned in my previous post on Rail Clamps the improved running since fitting them to my small in door layout. One further thing I have now found is the running without faltering of my 0-4-0's thro points dead frogs which they did not do in the past with points with LGB fish-plates. Due I assume to the better alignment now. One of my locos 0-4-0T (LGB 995001) now goes thro the points well, when in past it it always stalled or hesitated at slow speeds. Doug at Didcot .

NOW SOLD.
Mods, hope I have not upset the applecart too much by doing a sale on this thread, but as it were a live one just now seamed the best place.

I have for sale some Split Jaw Clamps suitable for use with LGB Rail.

There are 10 of them they currently go for around £1.50 ish each on Ebay. I would like £12 for all 10 plus I reckon they will go in the under 250g post at £1.20. Thus £13.20 in total.

UK ONLY PLEASE. Post to Europe and US would not make them viable.

Note that they are a different Allun Key size to the Hillman ones. Also in spite of the spit they are NOT Isolating ones.image.jpeg
Please Conversation me if interested. Replying to this with a Mesage sent will get my attention faster than a Conversation does, for some reason I do not get allerts. Cheers guys n gals.

In the past I have used Piko 35294 brass clamps although a little wary of the very fine Allen screws used I cannot fault them. However, before last winter I tried some from the States in stainless steel This was for a number of reasons. more robust so could really be well tightened down to both lock the track and give good conductivity, I cannot say for certain that anyone would not attempt to steal track it being outside but with all the joins locked tight it would take a few hours to pull it all apart and time for a thief if precious. Being stainless steel there is no rust and whilst they are not as as the esthetically pleasing as the Piko ones, how the track looks is way down my list.

The guy in Las Vegs that makes them sells them in 10;20;50;100 packs. I bought 200 with shipping and a little vat on import the cost worked out a fraction over £1 each which is very good. See the picture below but if you place the following number into eBay search it will come up with a 100 pack and from there you can search his other items 371954849084

BTW this is the same guy I bought a brand new Shay with sound from at a silly $205 plus shipping etc so he does have some great bargains.

Look very much like the Massoth and GRS brass clamps we have this side of the pond. Max

Just a note, "GRS" clamps ARE Massoth as far as I understand - they simply buy them in very large bulk quantities and re-bag them in tens or fifties with their header cards. Very little, if any, price difference either way - so it doesn't really matter, in fact I'm not even sure why I mentioned it..... ;)
