That's a matter of opinion Don. We had a small leak which was traced to the flashing between a flat roof and the main building. I rang the insurance company to enquire if it was covered. Their response was 'you need to submit a claim to establish that'. I said I only want to know if it's covered but they insisted they couldn't tell me. I duly complied with the request only for it to be declined. Come renewal date, the premium had increased significantly. When I asked why I was told it was because I had made a claim. Despite me arguing I was told to do that because they couldn't answer a simple question, they wouldn't back down. So much for Direct Line and Mr Wolff . Result - policy cancelled and new cover found. Changed my motor insurance too.Was the damage caused by the storm you guys had ? By all means give the insurance company a call. You have nothing more to lose.
I feel your pain. Certainly looks like some of the baseboards trashed but I bet the LGB will mostly be recoverable. Give it a good once over after you get it off the remains of the boards and I bet much will be recoverable with a little TLC.Once I had a rack railway but last night it went to its maker. (
I wonder if my house insurance will cover it? It ought to.

In some places they recorded 93mph - that's pretty breezyso Keith, what happened? Was it a storm that was stronger than the securing of the track?
Greg
Hi Greg It was storm Ciara, 90mph winds in some areas. The most damaging gusts are small tight spirals. I was once blown 18” into the air along with 7 others of a walking group. 5 of us were injured and one died a few days later. He had pacemaker and his heart was obviously too fragile to cope with the shock.so Keith, what happened? Was it a storm that was stronger than the securing of the track?
Greg
Yes, I am in Sale now a part of Greater Manchester. So Keith is in "Nr Manchester" which assume is "near"?
I know of someone who was flying from NZ to Manchester for urgent specialised eye surgery, the plane made 3 abortive attempts to land, there are videos somewhere, it was then diverted to Frankfurt as the closest safe airport. The following morning after getting up at 4:20am she was sitting on the plane when one engine was pronounced u/s. Four hours later they took off arriving a total of 48hrs late and missing her appointment. Fortunately, the consultant arranged to see her next day and operate immediately afterwards. In some places they recorded 93mph - that's pretty breezy
There were obv’ some weak points, it has been in situ for 10yrs+. I have felled 5 adjacent trees recently which meant that it was not sheltered. For a while I had been toying with the idea of re-jigging it. Back to the drawing board.I feel your pain. Certainly looks like some of the baseboards trashed but I bet the LGB will mostly be recoverable. Give it a good once over after you get it off the remains of the boards and I bet much will be recoverable with a little TLC.
I found Direct Line to be obtuse(kind word) and changed my car insurance as a consequence. A pity because years ago they were outstandingly good. I think, that they were taken over several years ago possibly by SwintonT

Tomorrow we get the delights of storm Dennis. (Worst storm for a decade. They just complain more down South. ;-)View attachment 261661
