Now this thread has its starting point in 1:1 Railways with a thread on Puffing Billy Downunder.

johnsaintjim requested some pics of my Clayton's 8A and the real 8A.
Now the building of this was covered in GSM so I will endevour to do a breif resume' on how it was done.

Here goes Graham this is for you.

Firstly you take an Accucraft Lyn painted in black with the Lyn nameplate on the cab.

The rivet counters will say that this will not be correct as NA's have 2-6-2 wheel arrangement and Lyn is 2-4-2.

Historically they were both built by the Baldwin locomotive works in 1898.
Well almost NA1 and 2 were built by Baldwin, subsequent NA's 3 to 17 were built by the Victorian Railway Workshops Newpert (Melbourne). 8A was built in 1908 and I did my conversion last year to co-incide with 8A"s 100th birthday.

Enough of the prattle you guys like pics.

Take a Lyn and rip the tanks off. Also change the nameplate for a VR manufacturers plate.

At this stage the interior of the cab had been changed from yankee green (no offence to our members in the US of A) to cream and r/c had been fitted into the cab.
I do mean in the cab, the whole lot batteries and all using micro servo's and 36mhz fm. This will soon be changed to 2.4gkz as I still have some glitching problems on the club layout.

In the previos pic you will notice new tank platform fitted.
I designed new tanks in a/w NA style tanks and Gordon Watson mocked them up for me as he can apply the rivet detail.

You will also see that the pony truck platform has been extended and a tool box added. The brake hose has been relocated and knuckle couplers fitted as per VR practice. VR replaced the choppers in the 1920's.

The finished item complete with Westinghouse airpump. Smoke box painted with Pot Belly Stove black (woodburner).

The model sitting on the pony truck platform of the real 8A.

The model sitting under the number board on the real thing with yours truely.

Notice the rectangular shape under my pullover over the heart. I gave them up nine months ago.

Hi Ron.

Nice conversion

Call me when you are ready for the 2.4 GHz R/C.

I have the 6 channel ones for A$99 for a TX and RX. So far they have been super reliable.

Hi Tony,
thanks but I did inform you at GSSU that I had purchased one the same as yours from Hong Kong. 1/3 cheaper.

Classic Ron, thanks. :D :D :D :D :D :D

PS Did I mention I really really must pop down and see you and the Puffing Billy. Wonderful.

Great stuff - really captures the feel of the prototype despite the wheel arrangement.

What a lovely loco. :D

That is nice. Very very nice.

corgi thats brilliant. so is the fact you have converted the other way and are no longer a puffing billy! also a massive achievement....
