Having visited Auschwitz myself in my early 20s even having no relatives or anyone I knew involved and having seen film of the relief of the camps by the Allies, nothing can prepare you for what is there, even if you know little or nothing about the background. Enormous piles of human hair in one display cut off the inmates on entering the camp, piles of gold spectacle frames and gold teeth in another taken from inmates, yet another of attache cases and suitcases, neatly labelled with the name and address of the owner who had been told that they were being taken to a work camp or somewhere safe....

Brer Rabbit and the tar baby,... Fictional ex-slave, Uncle Remus (now banned in some PC circles) warned us in folktales when to mind our own business and just walk on by. But no, I just had to touch the Tar (AKA the "like" button) Baby. Since I did, I have two comments to ad.

I object to either exaggerating or sanitizing history.

And in the Unites States "South" (Dixie), statues of Local Civil War heroes, Confederate flags, and even canon are being removed from public view. If we don't recall the past, and our inhumanities to our brothers and cousins, how will we prevent it in the future. And NO, my predecessors weren't in the U.S. when that disaster occurred. Next statues of Elvis will be taken down because of his lascivious hip movements.
