Pics from Ian Powell`s G Scale Society Meet

As requested info on model.

The prototype
In 1935 the Belgium Vicinal took delivery of a prototype bogie diesel mechanical autorail numbered AR 115 which was essentially a bogie version of the 2 axle autorails then in common use. Externally, the body styling was very similar the bogie electric motor cars supplied to Belgium tramways by the same supplier. The design was successful and a number of similar aurorails were built, but with a slightly modernised body style.

The model
It was built some years ago by David Gray, a founder member of the G scale society and featured in some articles on his garden line in the modelling magazines. It is completely scratch built and I have added internal detailing and a diesel sound unit. It is radio controlled (14.4V) battery and propelled by a playmobil motor block as one bogie. Although the model is of AR 115, It is numbered AR 501 which is a number allocated to an autorail in the late fifties, that was never built.

Many thanks for info on the Vicinal Railcar (Autorail?)

I have made a decision not to go to Shows that are impossible to get to by Public Transport. Unfortunately that counts the G Scale one since they started to hold it at an inaccesible Show Ground somewhere near Stafford. I have to say if I had been there in front of you I would have pounced on that Railcar. Never mind you have a beauty there that you have added real value to. One must also congratulate the original builder for his superb efforts.

Jon, the G Scale Society have put on a vintage bus service which ran from the Railway Station to the Showground since moving GRail there 2 years ago.

Also, the Showground is fairly close to the University (where my son Krizzy studied) and public transport does run to there....
