I just ordered a couple of loco kits from a very good manufacturer ; we have several of his models , so we know what to expect in the quality department .
It was rather irksome when talking with the bloke to find that he is completely dropping 7/8 stuff for a while .
His reason ?
Fed up with carping comments (from armchair modellers probably) , silly things like wheels wrong profile for a particular model (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) , no rivets (presumably a rivet counter was disappointed he could not pursue his hobby of being a damn nuisance) , and more in the same vein .
So what have the idiot so called scale specialists done ?
Denied entry level 7/8 stuff to encourage people to try it .
I am not about to divulge the company name , so don't ask , but if you are guilty of over-reaction to models , making a song and dance about supposed shortcomings will possibly lead to more examples of manufacturers saying sod it , it's not worth the aggro .
Of course , some people will be delighted to cause such problems , and you will probably have met them at shows where they declaim about missing snort valves on this particular model , wrong shade of brunswick green on that model , tossed in with a load of "they never made things like that" . In glottal English .
Then they go home to their lonely little world satisfied that they've upset someone and very firmly not making any models so that nobody can do the same to them .
Do not belittle yourselves by joining the over critical , you may live to regret it .
Just a reminder that our hobby is supposed to be fun .
