Hi,

I have been a member for a while, but this is my first thread I have posted, so please go easy on me!

My interest in all things G Scale was started by my grandad, who built and maintained our layout, so now he is no longer with us and his house long since sold, the problem solving I now have to tackle myself.... .

I was lucky enough to find an Orient Express set last year, and at GRail on Sunday, managed to find a further coach (albeit unboxed) on the SMTF model shop stand (who incidentally had a great 20% off deal on new track, so it is sad they have no website!).

Upon getting the coach home, I noticed that unfortunately, unlike my other two coaches, there was no central buffer at either end. I have researched the coach and believe the same is LGB item number 31658 and as you will note from the part specification extract below, I believe it would have originally been sold with two sets of detachable buffers, one with a single buffer configuration and one with a double. Having searched the internet, I am unable to locate any that I can purchase, so wondered whether any forumites had any tips on where I could find them, or alternatively whether they had spares themselves that I could purchase?

Thank you in advance,

Jon

That’s great Josh thank you. They look like just the job, and with a lick of paint, I can soon change the buffermount to the light grey colour that I need.

In your experience, are they reliable to deal with?

Cheers,

Jon

Modell-land are very good and reliable, the only niggle is their postage charges are quite high with a standard rate of €18 regardless of how small your order might be.

Thanks for the info. I have just put the items in a “shopping basket” and seen the €18 appear! Will have a think whether I need any other bits to make the order more worthwhile

there is a difference between modell-land and Modell-land service.
There have been reports of the 'service' operation being a bit slow and sometimes need chasing. The Store on the other hand is usually very efficient.

On looking to place an order, the website informs me I can only pay by bank transfer... is this normal for this website (modell-land-service)? If so, and apologies if this is a silly question, but how can I ensure I am sending them the correct amount in euros from my GBP bank account?!

You ask your bank to transfer 'x' amount of Euro's..
You can do it by phone for most banks.. A bit convoluted, and it tends to be a little expensive IMHO. :(

You pay your bank for the privilege of the transfer being done, and you pay their exchange rate..

I've taken a chance in the past and sent an order by mail and included Euro notes. Not for this Company I hasten to add but both times it's paid off. The value of the order including P&P was less than what my Bank wanted to charge sol I thought it was worth a shot.

In my experience that is a huge understatement,
Over three years ago I ordered a loco priced at 1899.00 Euro from Modell-land-Service .
I'm still waiting and they haven't replied to any correspondence for over two years other than a recorded delivery letter returned as undeliverable.

I doubt it will help matters that I have just made an order by mistake (after adding random items to the shopping basket to test), and have now had to use google translate to send an email in German cancelling it!

Alternatively do you know anyone in Germany who could buy the bits on your behalf and send them to you by ordinary post?

Hi Jon,

Wow - sorry - looks like I missed a bit of an event!

So from my experience - I've ordered from Modell-Land-Service five times in the last 18 months - no issues whatsoever. I'm ordering from the US and transit times seem to be 18-25 days over here to the colonies. On the long side, it's taken a month or so once. (Sorry to those who have had poor experiences! Guess I've just been lucky.)

As to the 18 euro fee - yeah - that's a little rough, but I try to do as you suggested, finding a series of parts I need and group them as one larger order.

One option I can suggest is emailing Modell-Land (NOT Service) and asking if they have the part as well... if they do, they sell parts on eBay, so you could ask them to list it for you allowing for PayPal to be used. (Just FYI, I also purchase from Modell-Land on their eBay account and it always has gone smoothly)

Here is their account: https://www.ebay.com/usr/ki-traum

Cheers,
Josh
