Digging out the polystyrene inserts that form planting sockets part way up cliff,

Bottom part of hole, has a lip, about 1inch, out of mortar so as to facilitate watering in new plants till they settle in

Forgot to do the ledges in this spot

so have added the battens after & will apply more over the top

Here the battens are applied in a dog leg

although it is possible to make a straight ledge undulate with the final coat of hypertuffa

Its easier to build a dog leg in at this stage

very few things in the wild are in dead straight lines

Extension track

Battens laid in mortar to align them, when dry in between will be leveled with weak concrete mix

then track laid & dry sand cement mix brushed in between the sleepers

Was going to relay the track through the tunnell by fixing to battens set in floor concrete

but couldnt get it to join smoothly without doglegs

So decided to reuse ply panel that was in there before, seems very good stuff, plenty more life left in it

This allows me to fix as many sleepers as it takes with screws, instead of only at 9" centres

Other end of old tunnel still needs heavy civil engineering to get levels right

been busy applying finish to this long side wall of planter

you can see the three planting pockets in the middle

may put some chamaecyparis Elwoods Gold in there

trees growing out of a cliff face always look neat I think

That upright in the lower level planting shelf has got to go
