Not even the start.... more of a prequel

I've hestitated about posting this considering some of the vast railway and impresive empires I see.
We've planned for a while to go outside with a railway but had always planned on O, you may notice that the edge of the lawn has a mowing strip and despite being a typically small, square garden of a modern house there are no square corners only 6' radius curves - come to think of it I don't think the builders gave us many "square" corners IN the house but that's another story.
Anyway the easier availability of G became so attractive that this year my birthday was a bit of a G scale one and having put together from various sources a quantity of track the boss asked if I had enough yet? I knew the answer was no but it sounded like a good idea to lay it out on the grass to see just how far it went.
So not exactly the start of bigger things, just a nice sunny afternoon with daddy playing with his toy train.

By the power of blu-tack and a pocket camers, 1min 8sec of video completely unremarkable except for the fact that after a lot of talking and plotting a train is running, albeit on a temporary track, in the back garden.

Tis a good prequel though, and signs there of more to come one day....

good start dave and i see we run the same loco,(YEH).
Thanks both, I do hope so otherwise the boss will probably do me some damage about the track I've been aquiring, I do have full management approval for the garden, my original plan was a single track loop round the lawn, she was the one who suggested it needed to be double track. To be fair she's from a family interested in trains, both she and her sister have N gauge. I'm busy [strike]indoctrinating [/strike]educating the next generation.

I believe, long time off though it might seem given the current warm spell, I'm having a G scale Christmas too with a second Annie already on the way.

Excellent start Dave. Manyof us began by laying track on the grass - the purest form of outdoor railway known to man (or woman). More power to your elbow!

Well done, it seems the others have said it all first.

Wow! well after a looonggg time, it really is a year ago isn't it, we made a start on putting something permanent into the garden this year.

The weather did us so many favours :) then "family stuff" got in the way but finally last week end I managed to complete the first loop of track around the garden.

Don't get too excited before you run the video, it's a small garden, the track is far from finished and if I say the camera train was one of those battery operated "round the Christmas tree" sets for under a tenner it'll maybe explain the lack of power of the loco and the light weight of the flat wagon didn't help either. It did mean I could try it right now without connecting up power to the track though :) and I needed to see something run, plus I could start checking clearances.

A name.... it doesn't really have one yet but after putting in all the brick edging I think "Dundiggin" may be apt.

Hi Dave
It certainly has come a long way from the first vid. Great work :clap:

Like it Dave....

Funnily enough the curves are actually all Piko R5 with the second loop going on the outside of those so a little wider still, I guess having the camera about 2 inches away from the track changes the perspective slightly, also the Christmas tree loco was struggling a little, I guess the weight of pushing the camera didn't help and the batteries were flagging a little as it wasn't the first circuit.
NiMh C cells should add a bit of useful weight and hopefully improve matters. Putting one of the "proper" locos on would have worked too but this little chap did his part by finding where the granite I'd placed where the lines will split was a tad too close !

First passenger service

So yesterday the sun was shining and for the first I brought out time a Stainz and a couple of coaches both recent birthday presents, bodged on some power to the track and ran our first passenger service.

Not exactly the Orient express but made me smile.
