Hello everyone. I'm from Nottingham (retired) and relatively new to garden railways. I have a mix of UK live steam (narrow gauge) and Swiss RhB electric (battery powered/ radio controlled conversion). I enjoy finding unusual solutions to problems (bodging). Lots of questions to pose!

Welcome to the Forum!
I am from Nottingham also.

What do we call you, or do you prefer HobbitFertang?

PhilP

Welcome to the forum Mr Hobbit, would you like to be called Frodo or Bilbo or do you have another first name? Though I go by the name of Dunnyrail, John or even Dunny works fine for me.

Hello and welcome to the madness

Welcome aboard Pete.

Nobody mentioned the dire humour yet. Be warned, it is usually cringe-worthy and you will soon pick out the culprits. A clue: it is all of us.
A warm welcome from someone who grew up on the nice side of the M1 and now resides in a tiny country. :hi:

Welcome, I'm another from the Nottinghamshire area.

RhB (where I'm from but not at), battery power/radio control (BP/RC) how I operate Ge 6/6 aka crocodile, Ge 2/4, the shortie formerly serving the Engadine, and the Bernina Motor Coach. The green LGB2070 steam loco was the first to get BP/RC.
I had this motive power furnished with TE Revolution modules with sound. It's a diy job for those who don't fear electronics and soldering, so not for me... I'm happy with this TE Revo equipment tho' DCC mayoffer more wrt sound.
There's a simple 'winter layout' (dbl track oval, turn loop on inner oval and electrically no problem thanks to BP/RC) in the downstairs, roughly 12ft square.

At this time I'm working on the outdoor layout which is to be largely under cover along house wall and beneath a terrace. Recently I tried some 'instant landscaping' with burlap (hunter's camouflage). Feel free to find it ugly :), I at times do, but it's better than seeing into the support structure. (Part of the roof comes down in winter, we live in the snowy Kootenay's of BC/Canada.) I'm debating options for rocky cliffs, ...just painting it on? Or perhaps as on an earlier occasion doing molds taken from real rock (does look very well as I remember it).

At left former firewood storage with a turn loop below and a loop to head on along the house wall toward the deck with another turn loop.

Green & blue ovals/figure 8 under the deck where it all began and above the large radius loop below.
Eventually the rising track was established at 26‰.

You can add a line or so which will appear under every post you make much like I have done, comes out light grey. Access via your name too right then type what you want in Signature. Pete would be a good start!

[sorry, messed up img placing; check farther up]

None of your pictures are visible. There are just links that go to an error page. Hopefully, you can fix this. I really want to see the burlap landscaping. Oh, and the post showed up twice.

Yeah, I messed up image placing, here we go once more:

Here's the instant landscape - hunter's camouflage burlap.
I tried other materials, disliked it, see skirting.

This is the indoors winter layout, dbl track oval with turn loop and staging

Amazing layout Rentren! I've also converted an RhB Ge4/4 II to BP/RC. It wasn't easy as my electronics knowhow is limited. Got the components from Fosworks. I managed to get everything working except the pantograph motors. The battery pack is 16 AA NiMH (19.2V). I had to modify the circuit boards somewhat but kept most of the original wiring loom. Oh, and I changed the bulbs to LED.

Was your line featured in Garden Rail recently, Pete?

Welcome Pete....
