New station painting

Very pleased with my new station , finally found a company who does a lot in g gauge and not a bad price ..
now i have to paint the bricks and a white line in the platform .
any ideas how to get realistic bricks painted ?

Are the bricks embossed? It's not easy to see in the photo.

If they are, you can firstly daub the surface wth mortar coloured acrylic paint (light greeny grey), making sure all mortar courses are filled.


Before it dries, wipe off the excess (diagonally) with a paper towel, to leave the paint in the indentations


Mix brick coloured acrylic paint, keeping it fairly gooey. Then dab a piece of sponge into the paint.


Take off most of the paint by dabbing the sponge on a piece of newspaper, then lightly dab the sponge on to the surface of the brickwork. Don't press too hard or the paint will ooze into the mortar courses.


Let it dry and job done.

Probably. I generally use the cheap acrylic paints from The Works and mix my own colours

I use a similar technique to Rick, I first spray with grey plastic primer auto spray, then use small cut down makeup sponges dabbed into paint and then wiped and/or dabbed across the raised brisk courses, leaving the grey primer to represent the mortar courses. I use different colours for effect. If you are building for indoor use, there is a huge range of embossed, textured, multicoloured stone and brickwork in 1/24th scale.

Hobbycraft have a good selection of paints, Tamiya, Revell etc
