I see you've replaced the wheels in the kits with metal ones - are they from IP Engineering?

Rik

They are Peter Binnie kits with IP wheels on longer axles. The painting is red oxide spray, then a red and black acrylic wash/splatter and rust is iron filings mixed with PVA/water and left out side for a few days. The rust is still "maturing" before I give them a coat of matt varnish. If I get some more then I'm going to try to bash them about a bit with the blow torch type soldering iron. I reckon a quick blast with that and dent to suit:D

SGR, iIread your proposal to dent the wagons with interest. I did this many years back with some LGB versions of these. It was very succesful (sadly they have been sold so cannot post any pics) but I respectfully suggest that you treat the Binnies with extreme caution, if memory serves the plastic is a lot thiner. So gently gently.

My way was to hold the iron as close to the edge as possible without touching it, when the plastic became pliable I used a skrewdriver to wedge bangs and scrapes into the pliable plastic. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks for all the comments.
One other thing to remember with these skips is that the original axles are 3mm and the IP axles are1/8". This means new axles for the IP wheels as the axles are too short and the journals need drilling out. I used 3.5mm and it seemed to work OK.
Need some more now:)
